Stellanatus, are you considering the Pandora also, or just the Pyra? Thanks to the wonderful people in the community the Pandora has a lot of great software. There is no reason to think the same won't be true of the Pyra. You may not be able to get all of the specific games you want, but you have seen what has been offered for the Pandora, so there is no reason to think the Pyra won't get the same kind of love. Things may be even better since there probably won't be so many hurt feeling and bad memories this time around, and we will have a bit more in the hardware department to utilize.
I am pretty sure Android and Google Play will be usable with a Pyra with little effort. I think I remember ED or someone linking to Android for this SoC (processor and stuff), or a devboard with the SoC. I don't know if anything special needs to be done (for performance, or to get Android running). I think at least one person has expressed an interest in Android VMs so that they can use their Android and Pyra stuff at the same time. I would probably mess with an Android VM on it from time to time, although I would more likely use something else.
As for general purpose use, that is how some of us primarily use our Pandoras. The Pyra will be capable of much more. As TrashyMG said, these aren't for everybody. To get the most out of them it helps to have some technical knowledge. When the Pyra is released it probably won't be ready for the average consumer right away. Linux as the OS, the physical keyboard, etc., were selected for specific reasons. If those are things you wish you had when using your tablet, and you like messing around for fun, or are willing to work to get things functioning, these might be for you.
In my family we all play computer/video games, and work with computers, in some form, a lot. I am not sure how that compares to others around the world. Here I am alone in my interest in the Pandora and Pyra. Minecraft was not enough to win one over, who plays it frequently on a Windows laptop. They also use an Android fone they are tied to at all times, a 3DS, our Wii U, and maybe an iPod Touch. Another is mostly content with Android devices, and occasionally using one of our other computers running Linux. No interest in the Pandora or Pyra, even though there have been occasional complaints about not having a keyboard when using a tablet.
May be more playable with Exagear Desktop.. I need to still test those games.
Please do, and let us know how things are looking. I never played these, and I think I might like them. The only one I have is 3, and I never completed it. I haven't messed with it in years.
