Pandora stops charging after a few days?

Just noticed this -

Leave the Pandora plugged in and switched on (though most of the time asleep) and after a few days it stops charging and battery capacity drops towards zero over the course of a few hours - Pandora doing nothing but looking at an empty XFCE desktop.

Rebooting via the log out menu doesn't help, but a hard reset using Pandora button and power slider fixes it and charging starts again.

Normal?

No seems a bit abnormal, Although I haven't done any extensive charging tests since the latest power savings updates that Notaz just did.

Which Pandora do you have? I'll update and check how mine behaves. Using the DC jack or USB?

I have in the past had my pandora drop below 80% despite being plugged in. Can't remember when that was and on what OS revision I was on, but I always just unplugged it and replugged it in (using the DC jack).

My Pandora's battery often drops down to 0% but not while charging. As you mentioned, a hard reset also helps.

It's not supposed to happen and does not happen to me.

Well it did happen in the past, but after I've added this hack to pndevmapperd:
https://git.openpandora.org/cgi-bin...c9a0a874e94d86483fb8108d5d86b0a0;hb=HEAD#l993
the problem was solved for me (note that you need to have pndevmapperd running, which is the case by default). Perhaps the workaround doesn't work on some PMIC chips, or something.

Edit: oh and it might be poor contact with the battery thermistor pin (the middle one), with that charger tends to misbehave although everything else seems to work.

Right, well. It's a CC Pandora, first batch. Unplugging and replugging the charger didn't help (hence I performed a soft-restart and finally the hard-reset which fixed it - battery is now at 88% from the 49% it reached earlier. Curiously now saying I have -01:49 left on the charge (yes, negative time left!).

Firmware is bang up to date, I always run the updater whenever Notaz releases any updates.

You got Notaz's latest idle optimisations too, out of interest? I think those should be a very good change for people who leave their units on charge - I only charge my 1GHz unit every other day now, so it should at least give you more time to notice it's not charging properly before it runs out of juice.

My CC sometimes empties out despite being plugged, too. While unplugged it worked down to about 30% charge left according to the applet, just to suddenly perform the low power shutdown warning.

Are you on your first battery still? I should probably replace mine, it's quite swollen and does not fill me with confidence. Despite that, having just one battery for five years is quite impressive. Got to visit ED when I get a chance. Need Nubs and R-Button resoldered again. Plus the power connector is wonky.

No, second battery here, bought about a year ago iirc after the old one asplodered. And yes, all of Notaz's latest updates have been applied.

I had some charging issues as well and asked ED to look at it when mine was in repair for a new case anyway. I am using this Pandora for a week and it seems to work fine right now (also updated the firmware to the latest)
Askarus mentioned this in a PM "I've put some contact-spray into the charger-port and spread it by moving the plug in and out several times. That did the job."
Your problem is not exactly the same because in my case replugging the charger did help sometimes, but it might be worth a try anyway.

BTW - mine was always charging without a problem with usb

Yay, back up to 100% now with 481 hours predicted charge. Lovely.

Mine's still apparently fine and not appreciably expanded, fwiw. I dunno if that's the difference between primarily plugging in a device only when it needs a charge (what I do) versus leaving it plugged in all the time.

FWIW I'm on my third battery with my current phone, and I think that's almost 8 years old or so at the moment. I bought the third battery a little over a year ago, so it suggests those batteries last about 3.5 years in my phone. My Pandora will soon be 4 years old, so the fact the battery still seems in decent health is promising, but perhaps I shouldn't expect it to last much longer.

I also had the issue... leaving it charging with wlan on to ipgrade some pnds while sleeping. And 30% battery in the morning...

After 100% it just hadnt started the loading cycle again.

Took the battery out for a while. Watched movies via kody on ac for hours. No prob.

Yesterday again. Watching movies. In background upgrading pnds. Doesnt load. Shutdown. Ac off. Went to work. In the evening back to normal.

Perhaps power saving problems?

Edit: was on 1.74. Perhaps withoit the optimization. Will try tonight with the 1.75 update 2

Mine may have been the power socket dying - a friend has offered to see if he can resurrect it for me. It charges over USB only now.
