Competition is the king of the castle.

Some people see libre software/open source as a product that must compete these days, even when there's no company behind...

At the end of the day, people use it because it's the best option, no matter what OS they use.

At least for day to day tasks (VLC, Kodi, OBS, Calibre, etc) and of course, emulators with frontends like RetroArch, Recalbox, Retropie, etc.

Obviously when he was talking about success he meant commercially, and in that he is correct, no-one could rightfully say that the Pandora was a commercial success. That's not a comment on the device itself though, (and it shouldn't be taken as one) just on how well it sells/sold.
