Pandora Desktop

iCP2 ;)

@Wally I do have a mac, and I like it, but I only use it for video editing abd stuff like that. Im afraid of apple and feel I have no privacy on it

A Dock for the Pandora to transform it into a desktop might be the go.  Like with the Ubuntu Edge . Just my random idea
You can already kind of do that the USB 2.0 VGA output. It's not good to display videos or games but it works well for browsing, coding and regular desktop apps I believe.

but in your signature ; " I am a huge fan of Android and use it on my phone (Snapdragon Galaxy S4),"

I hate to break it to you, but do you use Gmail and Chrome ? I guess so since you have Android... then where exactly is your privacy concern for Apple ? Because Google gets lots of data from you, so if you really have privacy concerns you should NOT use Android and declare yourself an Android fan in the first place.

Android is not much better than iOS in that regard.

Porting SuperZaxxon to x86 is silly. A drop in HW replacement of the Pandora but with better connectivity to bigger screens and controller support would be awesome as means of simply swapping the same SD cards and continuing your games where you left off...

One thing that would be really cool for a potential Pandora successor is to have, on top of bigger screen connectivity out of the box, multiple USB ports directly integrated. 2 would be great - since that could give you a technical mean to connect 2 external USB controllers to the base, without using a USB hub (provided the USB ports are 1.1/2 compatible). Or, for use in desktop mode, the 2 USB ports could be used by the keyboard and the mouse, respectively.

A huge win in usability just by adding one more USB port + proper digital output connection.

Some people are just irritating...

Hmm...

1: Android sucks (was cool)

2: Pandora X86

Angstrom X86(_64) + XFCE and a pandora logo for the program menu button. How hard is it??

Maybe we need a neat glossy Pandora sticker that you can put on your GNU/Linux desktop or laptop PC. And then it's just a matter of installing a distro that has xfce, and customizing it a bit with a Pandora theme. I don't really see the point though.

I'd trust Apple over Google.
Especially after the NSA revelations, yeah, it seems rather likely Apple is more sensitive about privacy than Google.
Uhm. Why? Apple just have fewer data because of no search engine and afaik no mail hosting...So: Lets avoid both as much as we can! ;)

I'd trust Apple over Google.
Apple sells hardware and software at high margins. Google on the other hand, gives many services for free so it have to earn money other way, by selling peoples privacy (so far indirectly).

Sigh.

The idea, for me at least (and I do think that most guys on here don't think I'm a total dickhead) is this:

A desktop Pandora - an ARM based desktop box that runs the same SZ (or compatible) as the handheld. PNDs you run on the pandora would run on the desktop without modification. Maybe synch your appdata directories with the handheld and vice-versa.

Yes, you can just download the software you want on any linux box and compile. But this isn't aimed at the linux and C/C++ whizzes here; it's for people like Kumaki who can't (and indeed won't) learn to build stuff - they can just hit the synch button and have their games, emulators, utils etc available on the big screen in a large box with a HDD.

Maybe a management app which allows you to choose which PNDs (with appdata etc) you want on the Pandora this particular time, from a library that's too huge to stick on two SD cards.

Who knows? The idea isn't without merit.

D.

You can get any number of quad core arm development boards - install (compile if you have to) SZ. I will print a case for the dev board (I have 2 3D printers now!). Done. Pandora desktop. Under $200.

Design a case to look like the pandora shell. Op logo on it. Easy to do for someone who know cad to tinkercad.

Maybe wait for the A15 quad boards.

If someone wants to work on it, I'm up for a new project.

I am actually after a portable "desktop" for some design work (doing a lot of 3D printing for people now). Having a powerful mini desktop either permanent in the garage or portable - I like it.

If someone wants to design and build it with me, let me know. I can fund for a dev board (or 2) if desperate.

Someone knowledgeable -

Well like I said earlier in this thread and other prior ones on this topic..

Get a beagleboard or beaglebone, slap it in a case.. A little bit of tweaking to the OS like the default keymap and such it should be able to run every PND SZ can. All under $100 dollars.

Why use a beagle? Just too old - I know it's similar to the core of the OP, why not upgrade to a quad A9 or A15?

The tech is there, use it! :)

True, I figured it's more compatible with the current SoCs.
