Yes there is still no picture, because unlike, say GPH, we are talking our time to get this right, not rushing anything, slowly tweaking things up, it will be done when it's done, and then likely tweaked some more. The move to the new SOC was a prety major change, however we shall be showing off the Dpad soon, just have to get all the F200 stuff out the way.

I quite like an advent calendar idea, but we will have revealed the final design before Christmas :) PCBs this month

It'd be cool to release the pics in pieces a-la an advent calendar, on the 25th, the whole picture is revealed and we see the prototype in all it's glory.
 Excellent! I vote for that!

...or, given that Craig says it'll be done by then, why not an advent calendar of screenshots of amazing stuff running on the prototype :smil:

Why in gods name does this sound similar to the quote about Duke Nukem forever's development.

Aduh, not like they're the only ones saying that, everyone who's not restrained by crazy deadlines says that.

Found this by accident. Watch the slide show to see the clever battery swap idea:

I hope something like this is what Craigix meant when he (or someone) said that the Li Ion battery in the Craiginator would be commonly available. The method shown in the slide show may be old news to others, but it's the first time I've seen it in a MP3/game handheld (although I'm certainly no expert in that area).

Man, that thing's tiny! Anyways, I'm pretty sure that's what craig means, but I'm not sure if he's specifically looking at cell phone batteries. I got the impression it would be the type of replaceable battery that you'd be able to find at a Radioshack or something.

I do wish Craig decides on a Nokia's battery and charger, one of the standard chargers (like the one for most Nokias before the N series), these are the most popular chargers world wide and they're dirt cheap.

So you want a tiny, little, wimpy 650mAh cell-phone batery that gives you 3 minutes of battery life?

No way man we need something with a little more ass-kick...its nice idea but seriously...battery life has to at least go the distance hear...has to be close to if not maybe on par with DS if possible.

I know it's a bit off topic, but since Craig's making the menu, here's what I think is an interesting concept to based yourself on, or maybe it's irrelevant, idk.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_Cap

I like the charger idea, but the battery better be good.

That brought a smile on my face, I wish OS's in general were more fun, like that. :)

That so reminds me of this thing my dad had on our computer when I was a kid... Don't remember if it was Windows 95 or 3.1, but he didn't want us using the main system so he loaded this thing called "Kid's Desk" I think it was called.

Nope, it was KidDesk:

Woah! A final design before Christmas? PCBs this month? NICE!

Hmmm...time to weigh my options...Upgrade my PC, or get a Craiginator...

Pc upgrade: Play current games faster, be able to play newer games. Stuck indoors, no portability. Total customability due to choice of OS.
Craiginator: Will be close to a Linux UMPC with the way they are talking, running a custom Linux kernal, full keyboard, touchscreen, Wi-Fi. Not enough power for full-scale current Linux proggies that are 3-d intensive, but easily enough for emulation all the way through to fullspeed PS1/N64 era, full speed. Large degree of customability due to the flexibility of the Linux system.

Hard choice, but I'd have to say Craiginator due to portability and the fact that it's damn near a UMPC in it's own right.

I hope it's out by March or April. Than again, I don't want them to rush it, as mistakes happen when you rush. The slower and more careful they move, the better the platform will be.

My ultimate fear is that it may splinter the handheld homebrew community even more than it is now. Say what you will, but the PSP has a nice community with neat stuff, and has potential to get better, especially if they improve their teamwork instead of all the jealousy and in-fighting. GP2X community is still MUCH friendlier though. Just scared with the craiginator and fx-800 we'll have a 3 way fight. Though it could be a good thing to create some great competition and Craiginator looks like almost as large of a leap as the leap from NES to PS1/N64.

:gp2x FTW! Craiginator is coming up fast though.

Wow, I never thought I'd see that again... My parents installed it on the computer, but didn't really do anything with it. I pretty much took admin control of the program and screwed around with it for fun.

Open your mind, now start reading:
I might be stubborn, but am really attracted to the positivity of having a battery from Nokia, after a quick research, I found the Nokia battery with model number BP-5L which gives 1500mAh with a wide price range from $13 to $66:
http://www.nokiausa.com/A4431610
With two of these we can have 3000mAh (is it possible?) which I guess is enough, it will be easy to buy several pairs later (specially ones made in China and are not Nokia branded) and even get\make seperate dock + charger for them, another cool feature will be the ability to replace the batteries without switching off the device, when the first battery is removed, the device goes into hibernation like mode, a fresh battery is installed, unit is left in hibernation mode until the user changes the second battery, and once he presses a button combination the device goes back to were it was.
Now stop being open minded, and start flaming :)

You really want the new device to have that?

Not exactly that, but a menu inspired by the concepts involved. Like, you go to some sort of living room, and you see all kinds of consoles lying on the floor, and when you click on of them it launches the matching emulator, or, you go to a bedroom and you're presented with games, and whenever you click a window it starts the window manager of your choice, and in the computer room if you click the wifi antenna thing depicted it turns off or on your actuall wifi thing inside the console, etc.. I don't know. Maybe that would suck actually, no idea :)
