However i wonder where the benefit lies? Page impressions still take a considerate amount of time as the old archive script (i agree here: i once had a look into and its ugly on the inside). Have you thought about more or less JSified inventory keeping? e.g. swapping in JSON objects to be renderered by a js-template engine? Keep page transistions as smooth as can be. If you insist on paging (i guess you do) keep page sizes sane (or configurable).
I had a bit of a fuck up going on and am fixing it now.
There still is a long to do-list but this definitely isn't dead.
The main goal of the new site is to make the uploading-process easier, put in new features like version-"control", a properly working comment-section and a major issue for me was making it xhtml-valid again.
