Non-premium batch one pandoras

I didn't email people telling them they could upgrade.. yet.

We are well aware we can increase the number pretty fast when we send that email, but right now the Ashens review has done enough to keep things in top gear.

When that calms down we will send a newsletter out.

We're managing to handle upgrades, 7 day orders and original orders in a very neat manner right now, it's just right, I don't want to rock the boat.

I should point out now the Ashens review has already increased the 135 number by another 35.

So humor me Craig, how many non-premium units do you make in a week now that you are making premium ones along side them and "eating away at the queue from both ends" as you said?

Not trying to pick a fight, just trying to understand the impact of these units on the non-premium ones, I understand the need for the premium ones (the fact I don't think I should add money on top of my 2.5 year wait doesn't mean everyone should feel the same), I just want to know if it is a matter of weeks, months or a year before I see my 1300-1500 estimated queue position.

I've already reached the point in my life where I think my son would enjoy the Pandora more than I, but that's cool with me, I would love my son to grow into the gamer that I am... :)

Thanks for staying with us.

It depends entirely on how many boards CC send us each week.
Please don't take this the wrong way, because I'm not complaining (and I intend to upgrade my own order once I can afford to), but that strikes me as exactly the type of intentionally evasive comment that people frequently criticize for.

You're not actually addressing the question he asked at all, but referencing another unknown. It would almost be better if you hadn't responded at all or simply said "I don't know because I'm not counting."

Edit: Again, I'm not trying to criticize. I love you guys. (Please don't ban me.)

But if he says, for example, 100 per week, as soon as there is any issue, people will start complaining: 'You said 100 per week! You lied to us!'. This has happened before, and so it's both easier and safer for him to say (truthfully) that it depends on the number they are shipped, becuase that is what it depends on.

If it helps, I believe they are receiving about 150-200 boards per week at the moment, though this is liable to change.

+1

I have may fair share of lengthy Pandora anticipation (approx 27 months) and TBH that kind of cryptic response is disheartening - I never seriously considered jumping off bandwagon, and I most definitely won't, but answers answering nothing (and other kinds of strange responses) breaks my spirit every time I read them.

I respect all members of OP team for making Pandora reality, but I also think that the role of community was equally significant in making it possible - no one likes to be disregarded in that respect.

Exactly. I believe it would be a mistake for him to give any firm number and imply any expectation of regularity. However he *might* have given a qualified statistic, such as, "last week I shipped X non-premium/upgrade units, but the number changes from week to week as the amount of boards we receive and the number of premium/upgrade orders will necessarily differ."

Or he could have simply said, "I don't know, because I'm not counting and I'm not going to." I would be perfectly find with that response because I respect that his time is too valuable to waste crunching those numbers for us each week.

But to give a response that raises questions rather than answers them is just frustrating to those of us who cling to any and all information that manages to leak out.

Sure we could take the various data points the team has offered and try to logically work out the percentage of units that are premium/upgraded versus those that are not, but that would be mere speculation and Craig & team would be quick to criticize it as such.

I'm not actually worried about what the percentage is. I believe that Craig intends to ship Pandoras out to all of his customers as quickly as he can and that's good enough for me. I'm not complaining about the pace. I just felt that this particular comment was poorly conceived.

I don't see the Premium vs. preorder being that huge of a difference in shipping pace.

If there have until this weekend been 135 upgrades and Premium purchases, divide that by 11 weeks since Premium ordering went live, it looks to be about 12 units a week going Premium. If 6 of them are upgrades, that an extra $900 operating expenses, if 6 are new Premium orders, that an extra $3000. That should keep things £ubricated.

Craig, Whilst you are selling Pandora's from under the noses of your loyal customers I cannot be pleased for you.

Do so only to keep yourself afloat. If you are doing it for profit then you have abused my trust. Finish your pre-orders and then push for profits and I wish you every success at this. But note, should you be foolhardy enough (and I sincerely hope you are) to design and build Pandora2 then I will not be trusting you with any of my money up front.

My goodwill is at its lowest ebb. I am a Pandora Fan boy but my order is just treading water and I just can't see an end to it.

But that's exactly what I want to know. Ashens positive review, whilst great for Panora's cause has come too early.

If is it open-ended and Craig gains 500 new customers to ship Pandoras out to as quickly as he can then us poor sods in the queue continue to wait.

If OPT stick to 10% of weekly production this would be a fair balance. Make 200, ship 160 to the queue, 20 RMA etc and 20 premium.

And it would really be nice to see weekly figures. We had a couple of weeks some great details from ED. But Boards Received, returned, WIP, shipped (Queue/Premuim, would give us guys waiting some visibility of the progress. This yet another demand for information from busy people and I'm sure these idealistically simple figures are harder to obtain in a busy production environment.

@Blue Protoman: No. If I recall correctly you upgraded from an early Batch 2 position., which may have been bumped to late Batch one by cancellations and then pushed back by premiums. As you are no longer waiting I think you should allow others with legitimate "whining" to do so.

There has to be a queue. We can't all upgrade.

If this is your Gruso style attempt to placate the thread then you need to study the master a bit longer my young padawan. :p

This is too harsh. 170 premium Pandoras isn't even enough to delay the batch 1 orders by a single week. I'm no fan of how Craig likes to lose his temper every now and then, and yes, I don't think that two year preorderers should spend more money after fronting the cost for so long, but Craig et. al. have been stressing and working their asses off for the last 2+ years to make this happen. There's a very blurry line between recouping costs and making profits on something when you're spending so much of your own time, and OPT isn't even close to crossing that line.

You're not wrong. And so far there has not been too many premiums. Billygoat (Oct2008) is will waiting so there's plenty of scope for uncontrolled Premiums to make an impact.

No @ 12-15 Pandoras a week to keep the project from going bankrupt, you are whining. Nothing is stopping you from upgrading other than your ego.

If there have only been a 135-170ish premiums then I honestly don't see what the problem is. As has been stated it won't even make more than a weeks difference in total for preorderers.

I upgraded from a batch 1 preorder. I did feel a bit bad for queuejumping so to speak, so I did some porting and compiling.

Indeed I am. Ego may be but cashflow also.

Oops..

I definitely did not see this coming. I was merely pointing out the fact that I would like to see the number of units shipped from Craig/ED per week.

If only to make the waiting easier as you can wait longer when you see progress.

I never meant to get future predictions, only actual number of units shipped last week of both types.

I know the queue is f$%#ed, I don't expect real numbers to mean anything, I just want to see progress, weekly if possible, bi-weekly if not.

As for the rest of the ranting in this thread, while I agree with a lot of it, I won't go into it as that was not my original intent.

Thanks Craig, for everything.

What exactly do you think all your bitching and moaning is going to accomplish. If you believe that they're liars who are trying to swindle you, then just take your refund and go. Otherwise, stop being an ass.

You have a way out. You always have. Nobody is forcing you to buy a Pandora. Grow up.

An agreement over the level of Premiums. This is the only thing I have a serious gripe about.

I don't think they are liars. I've trusted them with my money all this time I'm not backing out now.
