The truth is that GPH guys are still at the brainstorming stage :)

So if that is true we wont see the new GPH until next year some time
That Sucks, I may as well get a Nintendo DSi XL when they come out in 6 weeks, if only I could get a Voco Master GP2X F300 :(

Nothing concrete yet, all we know is that it will have about 90% backwards compatibility with the Wiz.

Source? The only way that'd really be true is if it were using Pollux or another chipset that's compatible (unlikely) and evidence suggests that MES has gone under.

Maybe they mean 90% of the things they packaged with the Wiz, or maybe they just don't know what they're saying.

Source is from GPH, they have mentioned other stuff which I'm not allowed to post as the final specs have not been settled on and they may change a lot. I think it's probably better to say little until you have settled on something concrete.

im dissapointed. since i have the wiz, i have difficulty to play handheld with lcd screen. oled has no blur, vivid color and awesome contrast (black and colors)

its a bad news for me. its so fun to play 2d games in a oled screen. When i play sonic hedgehog (picodrive) the background is always clear and detailed when sonic is running fast.

For me oled technology is great for 2d games and emulation. im really sad to heard that exophase.

Could this new console have more power (CPU/GPU/RAM) than the almighty Pandora?

Well I'd have thought it will be atleast as powerful as the Pandora if not more since it's coming much later. This console might be a good choice for those who want a very powerful gaming only handheld but don't want keyboard/umpc/pda features like the Pandora has.

Unlikely to be anything substantial. The SoCs on the market that are significantly more powerful than OMAP3530 are probably not available to a small time company like GPH.

I still find the 90% compatibility claim questionable, in my mind it means one of two things:

a) It's using a Pollux compatible chipset and the incompatibilities are due to screen orientation issues. As far as we can see MES doesn't even publicly exist, much less do they have a chip that supersedes Pollux announced, but they could still be doing things quietly behind the scenes.

b) The compatibility is maintained in software and they're using something better. In this case:
i) 90% could be just an overly optimistic estimate
ii) Anything they do another console like Pandora could probably do as well, in theory

I don't have high confidence that there'll be any attempt at software compatibility with the Wiz because frankly I don't think GPH is capable of performing this, unless they actually hired some skilled software engineers.

But if they wait until it's concrete, then they aren't going to change anything so why bother telling us then? If they were smart they would let us participate in the creation process because we are the ones that will be buying or not buying it.

I would think the software engineers they have are very skilled, but they might have different goals than someone else.

You would think so, but you would be wrong! According to Orkie (who I have good reason to trust on this) they only have one part time software engineer. So even if he's a fantastic one that's still only half as good as a full time one. But from what I've seen of GPH I doubt he or she is even that great.

So what makes you think that they have very skilled software engineers anyway? Companies do hire programmers that aren't especially good. All the time really. It's not hard to get a degree and if you have prior experience that all but seals the deal; if they don't have a strong base of software engineers to begin with than how can their hiring staff determine who is good or not?
