This is the standard Movieplayer by GPH with modifications by ell.

"MoviePlayer for GP2X.
modified version from official mplayer.

* Change Logs
added liba52-cvs(fixed point mode), libfaad2 library.
changed internal font to unicode font.
fixed some bugs.
[cut]
* License
This program is under the GPL, see http://www.fsf.org/ for more info.
Full source code is included zip file."

You can download it here.

I've tried it with a few files that didn't work before and now they do ;)

Btw in \gp2x\usr\gp2x there is a file called mplayer (no file ending). If you want to, you can make yourself a script which launches the new version which is located somewhere (i did it on the sd) and then rename to "mplayer" and put it in \gp2x\usr\gp2x (always backup the original mplayer!!). This way, you can launch the new version via the gp2x menu.[/cut]

Looks nice! But for some reason, the audio/video sync is off compared with the normal 2.0 firmware's movie player. BTW this is using DivX files. Also, it seems like the volume doesn't allow you to go very high compared with the normal 2.0 player (it does sound a bit nicer, though).

Rename it to gpe and run it from the Games menu.

(yes it matters, the menu is still running while it is .gpu!)

Good call, thanks.

Edit: sort of, still a little off, but it is better.

Realy cool, copying some ac3 movies to gp2x right now :)
Thank you for your work.

Oh, any plans on future enhancements? it would be great to have gamma correction from inside the movie player, you can steal the code from the lcd tweaker.

Fantastic work :D !

Does AC3 need too much processing power? or is it something else?

When I play the following DIVX with AC3 a little desyncronisation occurs :(
National.Geographic.Volcano.Extra.Into.the.Volcano.DivX511-AC3.avi

According to GSpot:

Video:
Res: 648 x 432
Codec: DivX 5.0 (according to nfo: 5.11

Audio:

AC3:48000Hz 192 kb/s total (2 chnls)

It is something else, see my sig, this chip is designed for DVD and DVR set-top boxes, I am sure it can do AC3.

Also if you check out AC3 it isn't really processor intensive to decode (I don't think it is compressed, or at least, not much). And we have a whole 940t spare to do it in software, I am still unsure whether it is hardware or software, the data sheet seemed to say software audio only.

Hi I'm having trouble running mp2x :(

1. Files Xvids & DivX files which work with the regular firmware 2.0 mplayer work fine...however using mp2x it says gives me the "File Not Supported" error.

2. When I try to exit the app, hangs to black screen

I tried changing the extension from .gpu to .gpe and running from games menu but still won't play files and hangs on exit

Am I doing anything wrong?

I see you are absolutely right !
But the specific hardware decoding is probably not used in this version of Movieplayer, so if it is all done in software it would be more difficult I presume, can anybody elaborate on this?

there is some new info on filearchive:

* Subtitle Setting(in mp2x.ini)
- lang : encoding charset(reference by http://www.gnu.org/software/libiconv/)
- left, right, top, bottom : margin of subtitle
- base : base position of top align
- font_red, font_green, font_blue : font color
- outline_red, outline_green, outline_blue : outline color

What mp2x.ini he means? There is no such a file in my mp2x directory.

Now we need to find a way to get the 5.1 sound out of the GP2X for use with 5.1 phones or plugging the sound into a cinema amp when using the tv tuner!
