New Renderings: Hires And Pandora-res With Size Comparison

Put it on a desk and use fingers for even faster typing too. I'm not even sure yet if the Pandora will have a place to store a stylus.
If anyone would want to type with the Pandora on a desktop, it would need those little rubber stoppers to keep it from sliding. Also, I'm not sure if it's thick (or heavy) enough to do so.

Edit:
And regarding the render:
"Face to face, and back to back"
"You see and feel, my sex attack"

Looking good - didn't like the original renders but I have softened to the design.

Only comment I have is that 'it looks cheap' (well I know it is relatively), but I can't figure out why..
It may something as simple as the typeface on the keyboard - I just can't tell..

Anyway, renders are great to get an idea (and I like the floppy comparison) but looking forward to some real pics one day soon.

Hell NO, function FIRST. I am so happy with these renders, this is going to be a kick aSS handheld.

I am glad that you have an opinion, but I am afraid that you are in a minority. I think this will be perfect, see below:

Agree, agree, agree. This is so small that pedrocasilva's concerns are without basis (unless his hands are abnormally small, like smaller than your average 8-year-olds)

+2 for the screen, it isn't big enough for thumb or finger typing (unless you want to carefully craft a stylus out of your fingernail, both gross and potentially dangerous, not that I wouldn't try it, perhaps with some glue and a cut up stylus). We are talking about 1/2 the size of some of these UMPCs.

Seriously, this is just getting better and better, and the native res of the render, pure genius.
I don't think they're unfounded; neither do I think of DS as very ergonomic, but at least it really looks nice which by comparison I don't really think pandora looks now (too much stuff too many compromises regarding doing them flawlessly)

My hands are not small either, quite the contrary, it still doesn't feel right for me, joysticks should be in the resting position of the thumbs, and that's not the inner part of the D-pad and Action buttons.

But yeah, I hadn't realized I was in minority in this matter, and since I've voiced my opinion I'll shut up now.

Any chance you can do slightly lighter versions in the future for us at work with crap monitors? If I throw the image into PSP and increase the brightness a little it looks superb, but if I don't, I can't see any of the 'holes'.

Same here, the design has really grown on me. Great renders ED, the floppy as a reference really emphasises how dainty the Pandora will be :)

Hm, can do, but those were optimized on a color proof monitor... so they should be fine ;)

The problem is that most of us don't have color proof monitors, so the lack of contrast between the dark gray shell and slightly darker gray ports makes them very hard to see. Maybe you could tweak the light sources to hilight them a bit? Failing that, lightening the whole image would provide a clearer (if less accurate) impression of the device.

I like the new renders. Looks very clean and professional now. The 3.5" disk was a good idea. The Pandora looks tiny now :D

Just one question, Are you really going to have a white frame (or is it chrome? ) around the lcd screen on a black version of the Pandora? I would strongly advice against that. Not because it looks bad but because of the high contrast which would put unnecessary strain on your eyes.

No maker of monitors would ever put a white border around a monitor with a black casing. It would be a terrible ergonomics decision.

Yes, 'should' :)

BTW, The dark grey instead of black idea (which I get by upping the brightness a bit in order to see the ports) looks excellent IMO, much much better than bog standard black.

They did? Where? Certainly not on my GP2X

Edit: I seem to remember they had some kind of white edge around the screen on one of the protype units. I'm glad they decided to change that :D

Edit2: Found it ;)

A matt anthracite grey finish would probably look neat. Renderings, anyone?

Seconded. Lose the bright border around the screen, it'd look much more professional (and easier on the eyes).

Good thing I'm using a 20-inch CRT from 1996. :D

Okay, improved the brightness of the pictures above, just redownload.

Also, there was a request on the German boards for a view from the top, as it allows a better size comparison.

Here goes:

Hi
I love this look, and the concept of the Pandora

It 's my dream for a long time : a "game pocket computer" :)

but i'm afraid with the touch "<" and "Fn" , are you sure it is impossible to press them without wanted when you use the pad?

Also the position of D-pad and Buttons seems ok, i've test it on DS fat , the location of these is better on Pandora :) and analog pad too, really right place , very good :)

Nice :D can you post this render with realtime sizes?
You can do that yourself, really, because there's no point doing it for him, because with different screens with different pixel densities, life-size on one screen will be half that on another screen. Just smack an SD card on your monitor and resize the image until the one in the pic fits the real one you're holding to the monitor. Or make some calculations and resize like that.

Also:
ED: Back-view?
