Sounds like a nice wee setup and ideal for future pandy!

If they do, I really hope they aim for the dual core setup (unless there is something better out, clearly). imho the battery life would be worth the performance boost.

Either way, this is years off.

We could speed things up if we sold shares to raise cash, but things like that get messy. Too many cooks and all that.

Well maybe if you needed a high amount of shares to be a decision maker that would work? 1k or more?

Cortex-A5 is less powerful than Cortex-A8. If you're looking for performance for next-gen, look at Cortex-A9.

A5: 1.5 DMIPS/MHz single-issue
A8: 2.0 DMIPS/MHz in order dual-issue
A9: over 2.0 DMIPS/MHz out of order dual-issue

It is something I've sat in the garden and though about for lengthy periods. It would probably just lead to disaster, the initial funds would be nice, but it might work against us later.

You're not the only one to ask, I've had dozens of emails, possibly over 100 - that is in the last 3 years though.

It's a case of, oh I don't know, it's like why do it when we are moving along (slowly) yet without debt. But then I see the advantage of it. Then the disaster of it.

I go in loops like that. I'm willing to talk about it though if someone starts another thread, if someone has some experience with having done it. I know from Micromen that it worked well for Acorn then turned around and wrecked them.

make it on your own and itll be a greater victory i reckon. getting corporate investors would really only serve to limit the device i reckon

i agree, don't get those others involved in any way, shape or form. You don't know them and it'll only lead to disaster. and debt is a horrible horrible thing.. they have you by the financial throat. being free of debt is one of the greatest feelings in the world. You're doing the right thing now, don't mess it up. better be safe than sorry! ;)

Don't do it. The aspect that you had the balls to finance this project on your own, intend to start small and grow slowly but safely has impressed me immensely.

I think the "required" rapid growth of our economy is unsustainable in the long term (and I also think we are able to see that to some extent in the current crisis), but shareholders do not care about that. All they want is dividends and fast growth in the short term, no matter the cost in the long term, and some (most?) of them do not even want that. What they want are dramatic changes in stock prices which they can profit from. They don't even care whether the stocks go up or down as long as they profit from it.

Stocks have severely deteriorated from an investment to a gambling tool and you would be wise to not subject your project to that bloody casino.

I know it's all the rage right now to spread half truths and doom-and-gloom about the "financial market," but there are a ton of ways to raise capital while maintaining control of a business. Depending on your type of entity, there are limited partnership shares, private offerings...etc.

I think you guys can relax though. Doing all these things cost money in the first place, and unless things are dire, the logical time to do them seems to have passed.

While I understand real news on the OP is trickling in at a snails pace, I do wish we weren't reduced to discussing pandora2: "insert tag line", version-1 is still "two months" away and Craig has only just started twittering about batch two.

Discussions about the next version are rather mute, at least until batch-1 arrives and of cause that batch-2 sells well. It might be nice if say a sub forum was made for these discussions, but I think until people get hold of V1.0 and discover all it's little problems and whats good about it, saying it should have a iCore 7 chip with Windows 8 and 1Tb of ram with analogue shoulder buttons with 3G and GPS etc etc are well just fantasy...

Fantasy? Oh well guess I don't need to go gym to build up muscle to carry battery back pack any more.

Sorry, forgot to add methanol fuel-cell power source! <_<

As far as I see it any "new" version is going to be an evolution: case and input control changes, from feedback, to improve on V-1.0 while making manufacturing easier and most likely putting in the fastest available backwards compatible ARM chip.

Plus maybe a new improved screen with the possible inclusion of improved wireless (n-spec, 3G or whatever next-gen pops up) and maybe A-GPS.

You forget wheels, 5 of them four normal ones and one in a steering capacity.

If there is any change for V2 I would hope it would be that production is full time as in no "batches" since for people that have the money to buy one I can see a 7 month wait is a major bummer which I think is completely ridiculous anyway sure 2 months break would be fine but 7 months!?

As for A-GPS (Assisted GPS): There's no need for such a cruch if you just use a quality GPS, e.g. those based on the MKT or SiRF star III chipsets. They'll lock very very quickly, no assist needed.

Your ignorance is showing again. The 7 month wait is lead time to get the parts. Big companies do not seem to have the same lead times because they're ordering so many of them. When you get a PSP, the parts for it were probably ordered months before, but because it's Sony, they just keep ordering more. OpenPandora doesn't have that luxury. They have limited funds, and a limited market at the moment.
