I have been searching and searching for a good FREE file converter to make my media files GP2X friendly.

Also any tips on the best size\frequencies etc to convert them to, to save space etc also appreciated.

*note* Yes I am a n00b. :D

what sortof file converter ?

movies?

music?

super is a pretty decent converter for movies (its simple to use) for movies it best to make the resolution 320x240 (around that) and the bitrate about 600kbps (this works for me using the xvid codec)

heres some links (their site is pretty crap imo and they seem to hide the links, some work some dont)

I use the 3gp encoder frontend for FFMPEG

http://www.nurs.or.jp/~calcium/3gpp/

The site is in japanese, but the install allows an english UI option.
Just use the PSP format and rename the files. Once you get used to the INI settings, you can make them whatever fits your needs.

I use this for my GP2X and Play-Yan

Just use super, select pocket divx and test what bitrate works. If you use gp2x's speakers set sound to mono and lowest bitrate

I'm seconding pocket divx encoder. It's simple to use and makes everything work realy well :)
