Still Fresh
1 - The Statement
So years ago I said to myself:
- I want to write my own programming language
- in which to write my own operating system
- on which to run my own 3D game
At the same time Pandora was just concept art,
but I've been eyeing it ever since because it fit the criteria I had in my mind of what a perfect machine would be,
and today, I finally got the Pandora 1Ghz edition.
It's 2015, and I want to make the above my year goal during my spare days when not busy with work.
By posting this, I want to make my dedication to it much more concrete.
Why am I going to try to do all these things?
Primarily because it's a life goal I've always wanted to do since I got into programming.
I've dabbled writing assemblers, games, and kernels, but never tied it all together..
Why am I calling it an Art project?
I want to go for a minimalist design in which pieces complement each other.
I think there is a natural tendency to want to re-implement existing expected behaviors,
due to lock-in from being accustomed to such approaches.
I want to avoid such things.
In Summary:
I want to pretend it's the 80s.
Next up:
Setting up a C cross-compiler,
booting a simple Hello World firmware in C (for later analyzing the assembly of),
and beginning to flesh out the language design spec.
Wish me luck! I plan to keep this up to date like a blog (unless the mods have something to say about it, *gulp*)
