I got a MKII back from gbax because my mki had a faulty joystick. anyway, the screen seems a lot sharper overall, but the colours seem really...smudged together and blended in, like it was a 3 year old trying to paint within the lines and failing miseribly.

but if you tilt the top of the 2X slightly towards you..it looks perfect, i was messing with the cpu/lcd tweaker gamma settings and found that changing the gamma from 1.00000 to 1.60000 made the screen perfect (without having to tilt it) so is there any way to save these settings?

seeing as there's now 2 different screens..i dont know how they will handle this with firmware, unless it means making 2 versions of the firmware, one for the MKI and one for the MKII with the corrected gamma?

Have you tried putting an autorun file in at the top level on your sd card?

This one sets it to 0.6 automatically, amend it but make sure it still has the extension .gpu

There's a thread about it here

I am considering picking up a MKII here in Korea before I head home and I'm wondering if you consider it to be a worthy upgrade? It's starting to sound like the screen is better. How does it feel? Does it feel stronger?

so is the mkii screen better or worse

It is better and worse. It has better contrast and isn't as washed out as the old screen. The colors seem more deep and saturated. The black level is MUCH better than the M1. The viewing angle is more directional though and the darker colors can get clipped (use gamma adjuster to fix). So I would say overall it is better than the M1 but not perfect.

I dunno. I really like the look of the new screen. I had a MK1 awhile back, and I can say that the screen on my new MK2 is MUCH crisper than the last version. Not having any lines is a great thing too. It looks great on this end.

I am so far in full agreement. I received my MKII today and have so far very easily noticed the lack of interlace on the screen. In my opinions it is miles beyond the original. I'm just kind of confused as I swear I remember my first edition without scanlines and then the scanlines appearing because of a firmware update.
