Mame Gp2x 2.2

I thought'd be more. I have seen a Ms. PacMan in good condition, albeit with a busted power supply, for $100 - vertical cabinet and everything. I'd have jumped at it if I'd had a job or money then (I'm not a hobo, just a kid).

And I work in pub. But we have no video games, only live music and drunks.

I shall keep this all in mind. I worked under the assumption they had not modernized distribution, so it's nice to see that confirmed and be given tips. Actually, I know a place that may have a "broken" Ms. PacMan cocktail cabinet.... It's been nine months since I was there, but they had it two years before that, though it worked then...

Hrm. I shall endeavor to procure such a thing! Though I'm moving a long ways in a few months, which makes me less endeaverous. and such.

Thanks!

Porting something later than MAME 0.37 would run very slowly...

Why is this? The most stressful aspect should still be CPU emulation, I don't see a good reason the existing ASM cores cannot be carried over. I do not keep up with the MAME source development so I may be in the dark about some other stressful addition from 0.37 on, but what do you have in mind that is so slow?
Major internal changes include:
- using 16-bit color screens instead of 8-bit paletted screens.
- introduction of the tile-map system to handle drawing tile-based screens. The tile-map system is generic though possibly not as efficient as the tailored video drivers for each game.

You also have to remember that there are only two ARM assembler cores - 68K and Z80. And the DrZ80 core isn't that compatible - many games do not work correctly.

If only there was a 6809 ASM core... :)

Any new supported games? I doubt it, but it never hurts to ask.. doesn't look like it from the MAME4ALL Compatibility list. I really can't wait for the day when more modern hardware is supported, e.g. higher-end 68000-based games like the Cave series (Donpachi, Dodonpachi, ESP.Ra.De, Guwange, Dangun Feveron) .. Strikers 1945 (I, II, III, Plus) .. Capcom/Takumi stuff (Mars Matrix, Giga Wing), so on and so forth. It'd definitely run well-- these systems use 68000s at ~16 MHz and Z80s at ~4 MHz-- hardware close to this already runs at 60 FPS in most games (a la NeoGeo, with a 68000@12 MHz and Z80@4-- if there was lag you could always just dial down the emulated CPU clockrates a bit to alleviate it.) I guess for now, I'll just keep dreaming-- but the GP2X hardware is really capable of more than the existing MAME romsets supported.

That said, excellent work with the project so far, keep it up! You're doing a great service to the community with a fine emulator like this one.

Emulating all of that fancy hardware ain't easy. Me, I just would like phoenix, Zaxxon etc with sound ;)

Were the controls in Millipede fixed? I thought I heard someone got it working in the Gp32 version.

Phoenix has sound in MAME GP2X 2.1 (in 2.2 there is a bug i solved in my last private version).

Millipede will be fixed soon.

I don't know about Zaxxon.

Yeah Phoenix does have sound  I didn't think to test it. the shooting sound is off, it buzzes, but it is still better than before. How did you get it to work? I remember you said samples were too slow and .34 didn't emulate sound. Does this mean that Zaxxon, Donkey Kong etc sound can be fixed the same way?

Thanks much.

I solved some problems with the sound library in MAME GP2X 2.1 because some sounds were discarded. You will see more sounds in more games.
