Mame Compatibility Tool?

Certain roms that work perfectly well w/ Mame32 v104u not work with any recent Mame builds, including mamegp2x? It's the general problem of component rom files being renamed as MAME drivers are updated.

Is there a universal MAME tool that up-converts roms to work with recent Mame releases?

Also, although it's outside of our control, the seemingly pointless rom file renaming is damn annoying.

readme!
6. ROM NAMES
------------

Folder names or ZIP file names are listed on "gamelist.txt" file.
Romsets have to be MAME 0.34 final version ones (December 1998).

Please use "clrmame.dat" file to convert romsets from other MAME versions to the ones used by
this version for GP2X, using ClrMAME Pro utility, available in next webpage:

http://www.clrmame.com/

NOTE: File and directory names in Linux are case-sensitive. Put all file and directory names
using low case!.

I read, I downloaded, it did not work. ClrMamePro renamed the roms but they still did not function.

What am I missing here?

Many ROMs will not convert. You can't convert a file that is different in the first place. The only conversion that ClrMamePro does in the first place is to rename the ROMs within the ZIP files based on CRC checksums.

Try "converting" from a less recent set.

Or find the correct MAME 0.34/0.35 set in the first place.
