Linux on GP32?

note: atleast my explorer tries to download the zImage as text file .. so i created zImage.bin that you must rename to zImage before you upload it to your gp32!

Yeah, I think it downloaded as a txt file for me to. I'll change it to bin and try again (I thought it was odd to have the kernel image be a text file).

Why do you need the heacked PC Link? I loaded the files on my GP32 without a problem, unless BIN isn't an extension that it will load?

you are not uplaoding zimage.bin to your GP32, you are uploading zimage dot nothing, but pc-link requires files to have a 3 character extension. Thar's why you need the hacked version

Whats the poin in having Linux on a GP32 what can it do? i have nver used Linux be 4 so i wouldnt kno.

when i put all the files in the rite directorys and run the boot file thing in free launcher all i get it text and a pic.

Is that all thats ment to happen?

can you run standard linux programs on this linux port or is a lot of its functionality missing ???

taking into account that eventually smc support will be included + you can actually do something with it?

iirc mizi linux has a toolbox thingy that has a "motherboard" with a smc 240*320 lcd, arm9 cpu, linux..... i thought that there was source code somewhere for the mizi distro....

actually just checked it.. (finally)
mizi linux has support for gamepark devices .. atleast for gpi rev 1&2 and those dont differ so much with gp32

i tried to compile it but my lart compiler didn't like to compile it.. i'll try again sunday when i have time .. if i have time

so.. anyone else wanna try copiling it? ;)

//markus p <empee at daug dot net>

WHERE IS THE SOURCE  i'll try to compile it, but i don't exactly know how to compile a kernel, but i will sure as hell try :D

btw, you are welcome for mentioning that disro ;)

probobly not slackware.

i need some help compiling the kernel, could someone help me? i have never compiled a kernel before (don't laugh or you will classified as a 154% dickhead), i am assuming i need linux installed on my computer (which i do have it installed on my laptop) and the lart compiler, what else do i need?

Hey guys,

Empee, I noticed you saying that the machine you were hosted on has closed over a few ports and you can't use it any more. Me and a mate have recently started up a hosting company. You want some space?

We've got a fair whack of un-used space at the moment and it would be nice to see this page back up and running. Drop me a line at ben at u-host.net and i'll set you up with an account.

Although my gp32 hasn't arrived yet, I'm already hanging out to get some *nix action going.

Cheers all,

Ben

hope someone get it to compile, is there many software for it available? cant rea the site cause its on korean...
is this mizi linux then nearly full available for gp32, it looks like a pda system, and that would be very cool.

BYE

PS: do you need any help updating the other website?

I used COMI to remove the extension, and now it works.

I'll have to check out this Mizi Linux, maybe I can get it to compile on one of my Linux machines.

But the problem still remains that there is no real input device for the GP32.

we cant really "port" slackware or anything else .. you really should read how the whole linux works..
you get kernel then add some progs to it and there.. you have own distro ;)

the mizi linux kernel _has_ smc driver.. that could maybe be added to that original samsung linux kernel...

and we have input device! .. haven't you noticed how that mouse in windups moves? .. someone just write driver for that and there we go.. we have mouse..

Sonic-NKT: me need help updating page?
if you were asking me then .. YES .. mail me ;)

call me crazy, but on startup it said something about a usb mouse, that could be possible if you made it battery powered since the gp32 usb port supports UNpowered usb master. i still have no idea how to compile a kernel, but i will be able to try sometime tomorrow(for several hours) because i won't have access to a computer for a day+. i will be going insane with all this linux news :(

Well, a mouse will be of little use in BASH, we are going to need a keyboard to do anything.

Of course the SMC driver is the most important part right now. I did some searching, and the only info I can even find about SMCs on Linux is from the Mizi page.

When I get home (I am out of town for the long weekend), I will do some research on Mizi and see if I can't get a few people interested on trying to compile a distro for the GP32. Maybe get the Mizi distro to work as is...

Maybe hacking bash to add a virtual keyboard (I've seen such apps on the Agenda VR3 PDA)...of course something like that has probably already been done and I guess joypad input is also required :)

A virtual keyboard would be a possibility. I have a portable computer that was special built for a shipping company. It is the grand father of the tablet PC, a 386 with touch screen monochrome LCD, laser bar code scanner, serial port, and a 8 MB hardrive (If I recall correctly).

Anyway, it has a stripped down version of Windows 3.11 (Workgroups), and of course, MS-DOS plays a large role on it. It has both a Windows and MS-DOS virtual screen that works with the touch screen.

It was pretty impressive seeing a virtual keyboard under the command line, and I see no reason a similar program couldn't be created for this application. Perhaps a virtual keyboard like the one in Wind-Ups.

But that is probably a bit farther down the line, right now I would be happy with a TTY connection so I can type on a PC.
