Here is the bug list, a list of reasons why Lik-Sang decided to wait until doomsday for a certain handheld that might not ever see the light of day (some of the 'problems' require a back-to-the-drawing-board scenario).

• Practically many videos are not playable without capping them.
• There are reports of Xvid playing too fast, and DivX sound not in sync with video.
• There is a battery problem, 2 hours battery-life with standard batteries only.
• There is no power supply or charger included with the GP2X.
• Stereo jack sinks on some units, because of poor soldering.
• The speakers are mono instead of stereo.
• Headphone channels are switched, left is not left.
• The action buttons are too small. Your thumb can cover all four.
• There is a large joystick deadzone (that can be fixed with a "mod" according to a distributor).
• Uneven color distribution on the screen and other LCD problems.
• Long boot time (28 seconds).
• Compatibility problems with some brands, types or sizes of Flash Cards.
• USB Connection and incompatibility problems with Windows XP (apparently fixed with latest Firmware).

What has been fixed of this list of "problems"?

*Before the flame war about using the 'search function' begins, this affects some of us, and it's nice to have them all detailed here. Some people also have different results of the firmwares, and I haven't heard of the headphone jack falling in on any units recently.

well, I believe these are gone:
• Uneven color distribution on the screen and other LCD problems. (more or less on 'other problems')
• Stereo jack sinks on some units, because of poor soldering.
• The speakers are mono instead of stereo.

and these are being addressed, and have shown improvement:
• Practically many videos are not playable without capping them.
• There are reports of Xvid playing too fast, and DivX sound not in sync with video.
• There is a battery problem, 2 hours battery-life with standard batteries only.
• Compatibility problems with some brands, types or sizes of Flash Cards.
• USB Connection and incompatibility problems with Windows XP (apparently fixed

And this one never existed:

Yeah thats true... That one is just a ridiculus comment put in there

I can't believe they're waiting for some of these things, like a, AC adapter to be sold with the unit? And the buttons being too close together? Feh. Some of the issues are important, but those and the deadzone problems are kind of rediculous.

• Long boot time (28 seconds).
I think they should change this one since its really wierd..

On my 2x on several occasions it booted in like 10 seconds, sometimes it doesnt even boot, but most of the time it boots in 30ish seconds.

Its kind of wierd, maybe changing it to irratic boot errors instead :) Who really cares how long it takes to boot anyway.. Most apps have an option to exit them and go back to the gp2xmenu anyway.

well guys you cant blame them for not wanting hundreds of gp2x's returned for all this crap. From what ive read you guys have mentioned, and complained, about all of this except for the button thing, that was probably just taken from the edge article. If you think about it, none of these would ever pass on a console made by sony or nintendo. Do you think the psp with deadzones in the thumbstick would just be disregarded as an easily fixed problem? NO! GPH is not up to the standards of the other companys and their hardware was rushed out too soon. And when it comes to a 3/3.3 volt machine being run on 2.4 volts, its no wonder why people would like to see an adapter supplied with it. And archos couldn't sell a gmini400 with lag and bad compatibility. A new upgraded verion would be released, or a SAFE firmware upgrade issued. And you guys will thrash the psp for a dead pixel or two but you defend the gp2x's scan lines? And the headphone thing, this entire system sounds like one big giant group of ps2 disk reading errors. How about instead of complaining to the people who reveiw the console we con complain to GPH. If the system sells and they hear nothing, they are right not to change it. Lik Sang did a good thing by confronting GPH with these problems, you should encourage them to ask for fixes. The gp2x, as of now, is an unacceptable peice of hardware with a good following and a nice price tag.

1.Scanlines don't exist in the latest firmware....
2. If you want people to intelligently read and respond to your posts, Please don't create walls of text... Paragraphs exist you know...

the buttons do feel a little cramped for space it has to be said, this could be improved if the membrane behind them was a little more raised up.

They DO exist. As well as the flickering. God, people have to tweak themselves the LCD to approach a value so that the LCD won't flicker/have waving lines/scanlines/etc.

The gp2x LCD is still crap, and it takes a pretty blind guy not to notice it.

What I'm pointing out is not wether this stuff is acceptable or not, it's whether lik-sang is right in holding the product back for these reasons. THEY'RE STILL ACCEPTING PREORDERS! The demands that they are making will never be fixed by this generation of GP2X devices. This is how the device is, fixeable or not. They should say, "I'm in, You will have your GP2Xs by this date: ______", Or say, "Your money will be returned to your account, have a nice day." Not, " We're holding out on buying our units until the manufacturer meets the following criteria, which MAY or MAY NOT be a part of their agenda, and because WE think it is important, EVRYONE must wait. By the way, you can preorder here..."

That is unreasonable. A majority of these problems have been fixed, and will be fixed with firmware upgrades. I've been told that there will not be an "Official release", and Lik-Sang themselves are being incredibly vague about the entire issue, not answering questions on if they've heard that ther was going to be an "official release" or not, if the GP2Xs without "First edition" printed under them are considered "second edition" in their eyes, and if not, what would they consider a 'second edition'? The company is being irresponsible in accepting orders for a unit that they're holding out on distributing for a date that might not ever happen.

To me, that's worse than a deadzone problem.

edit: or an lcd problem.

If the settings can be tweaked to fix these problems then how is the lcd crap? If anything the settings are crap.

For the record there are no scanlines, flickering, dead pixels, uneven colours etc on my unit when i tweak the settings, this proves (at least to me) that the lcd is fine and the default settings are whats screwy.

A system configurator where you can change these settings (and perhaps clock speed too) which saves the settings and loads them on startup would be usefull though.

Well, I think Liksang forgot the ONLY good reason they're not stocking up and selling the GP2x .... They cant make much profit on this !

Like most retailers and videogame companies they are probably making most of their profit from selling games and gizmos (such as extra joypads, proper RGB cables, etc...)

Therefore they wont make much profit from selling the GP2X since people will buy the unit and a memory card and, voila ! that's it ...

Wonder why people give so much credit to a review done by a STORE !

and to the PSP fanboy, PSP is a lot more expensive, and SONY is a huge company, which is not the case for Gamepark holdings (or whatever it s called nowadays)

The GP2x is the perfect homebrew system , and homebrewers and homebrew fans are not the same as mainstream or casual gamers .

I dont give a sh** if the "left is not left", i just switch the headphones !

The Xvid problem is NOT an issue ... MANY Xvid videos flying around on the internet are very bad encoded and therefore dont work on dvd/divx tv players or even on computers . So asking a GP2x to play perfectly a bad encoded video is useless .

Psp cant play Xvid straight out the box,can it ?

The size of the button might be troublesome for fatsos ... but then you have bigger problems (health, etc...) than not being able to play Gp2x.

I'll be getting my GP2X from Shibuyagame next month because it s the most convenient for me , as I am in France now .

Liksang is way to slow and expensive anyways ...

(ordered my gp32 from gbax on a tuesday night around midnight , got it next thursday around 10 in the morning
ordered an arcade stick for my DC at liksang, cash was withdrawn immediately, got the stuff 3 weeks after (though it was on dhl 48hrs delivery)

I'm going to withdraw my order (I should've done it a long time ago) and give my money to a more worthy distributor. There's just some issues, like I've changed banks since then, etc, and I'm not sure if it will work... if there is a 'second edition' coming out in Q1 2006, then I want that. My only problem with lik-sang and this whole cherade is that they've given NO updates whatsoever to this debacle, and no news from GPH has come about this unit. So I'm getting fed up with waiting fo something that, as far as I can see, will never be released.

erm...that is true..do you even have a gp2x? my thumb can easily cover all the 4 action buttons

but is that a problem? no

im not saying "when i try to press A, i accidentily hit the other 3 buttons" no, dont be so stupid, im simply saying if you wanted to, you could easily hit all of the buttons, not that it happens by accident at all. but your thumb can easily cover them all

Many dead pixels on screen
Square button not work properly
Right on the control pad not work properly
Analog stick weak and can snap off
Analog stick to sensertive
Speaker quality poor
Long loading times
Movement on analog stick not detected in sleep mode
Poor design/layout
Ear phones bundled with it poor quality
USB lead not included in basic package
Not compatible with many types of Memory Stick
Case included with machine reported to scratch the screen
Incompatible with some ways people get on the internet
Many machines returned due to faults

All that lot never stoped Lik-Sang selling the PSP as soon as it was out in Japan, personally I think Sony heavy them not to sell another multi-media device, they don't seem to like people talking about GP2X on there official forums but they have no problem with people talking about DS and other machines.

Okay, some one clear this up. The buttons on the GP2X, are they as close together as the DS buttons?

Because if so, then they are just picking on GP2X.

They roughly cover the same area but the buttons on the gp2x are slightly larger. I also agree that they are jumping on the band wagon and being rather picky!

What? That sentence doesn't make any sense. If the machine is happy running on a pair of rechargables (which it is), then it obviously doesn't care about them supplying a grand total of 2.4V, regardless of what voltage the machine is (and I think you'll find there's a switch mode in there that'll take a range of voltages and output the required 3.3V)

If the 2X came with a proprietary battery, or came with a couple of rechargable batteries, then sure, provide an adaptor with the unit so you can charge them without removing them from the unit. But why supply an adaptor when one isn't necessary? Did the original Nintendo GBA come with an adaptor? Mine certainly didn't, and that's the same case - a 3.3V machine running on 2.4V.

May I point out GP32 used normal batteries and didn't come with an adaptor yet Lik-sang had no problem at all selling that.
