I'm getting back into the Pandora scene after a while, I sold my original unit a few years ago and have just purchased a 1Ghz unit (whilst waiting for the Pyras )

I'm a bit out of touch with all the emulator updates, which should I be using for MAME/SNES/Megadrive/etc now? Are the EMU EX+ ones the best to use now? I searched for best emulators but no threads seemed really up to date so thought I'd ask the people in the know.

Surely no one has bested Picodrive and PCSXrearmed?? ;)

Thanks for any advice!

PCSXrearmed is awesome. It plays all Games i tested smoothly on my CC even without Overclocking. gpSP is working well for the GBA Games i Play (better than GBA.emu). Oh and PPSSPP (PSP Emulation) is also pretty Awesome. EMU EX+ is always a bit slower than the specialized Emus AFAIK.

Cool!

What is everyone using for MAME these days? There seems to be a few versions now.

Also, did anyone get CD32 games running? Will UAE run those?

Final Burn Alpha is awesome (including CPS3).

Sure but it is very outdated (latest Pandora release on the repo is dated August 2013, so almost 3 years ago).

There is also PanMame for arcade emulation on the Pandora which is good altough sometimes slow (it lacks ARM ASM cores). I think Slaanesh was also interested into porting his own X-Mame (originally released for the GCW-Zero) to the Pandora but no idea when it will be finished.

About CD32 games: UAE can definitely run those (i tried myself Speedball 2 CD32 in adf format) but i am unsure if currently every CD32 game works. If you like Cannon Fodder dont miss Open Fodder (which supports Cannon Fodder CD32 version final movie): https://repo.openpandora.org/?page=detail&app=openfodder_ptitseb

Frankly, for Megadrive emulation I prefer Md.emu. I don't like the way sound is emulated on Picodrive, sounds a bit tinny to me. Plus, some games just seem to play better on Md.emu, I don't know why. Oh, but don't even think about playing Sega CD games on Md.emu! It has some game-breaking bugs, so for Sega CD and 32x you stick with Picodrive.

PCSX is as awesome as it gets on the handhelds, but be aware that I doesn't emulate everything perfectly. Earlier Ridge Racer games are kinda slow (RR T4 is fine, though), and some random games like Crusaders of Might and Magic are really unplayably slow. But I think that most good/important games work perfectly fine.

On the matter of GBA I offer a second opinion: use Gba.emu. gPSP is prone to random crashes in some games. It is much faster, but if you have a Ghz unit you should have no problem overclocking your Pandora slightly, which will solve the speed issue with Gba.emu.
Mupen is an adequate N64 emulator, but nobody should ever emulate N64 on the Pandora because of the evil nubs which will fail eventually and are generally unpleasant (there is a rumor that after failing they can become sentient and may occasionally insult your mother).
PCE.emu is a superior way to emulate PC engine, I suppose. The other viable option is mednafen, but PCE.emu has much nicer interface.
NES- stick with GPFCE.
SNES - 9x4p. It is MUCH faster than Snes9x EX and is generally better in most ways. Some games (Super Ghouls n' Ghosts) have minor glitches related to transparency, but Snes9x EX is having trouble running some games altogether (Kirby superstar, which runs perfectly on 9x4p).
As for home computers, I think all emulators are good. I prefer C64.emu to VICE because it has easier interface.
GB/C - Gambatte. It's very good, although its interface is a bit odd.
MAME - I'm using MAME4ALL. I know it's old but I don't like fiddling with romsets, and I already have 0.36 romset ready, so... Anyway, it plays all the ancient arcade games perfectly and requires zero fiddling. But I suppose you should try Panmame if you're ok with grooming your romsets for it.
DraStic is an excellent DS emulator.
PPSSPP doesn't really play anything for me, but I have a Rebirth Pandora, so maybe you'll have better luck with it.
Oh, there's also Mednafen, which includes many emulators... I personally would recommend its Atari Lynx emulator. It's fiddly at first but emulates that system perfectly as far as I can tell.

For SNES, also check out spi.snes. From what I can tell, it is the best choice if you plan to use filters.

If you do happen to lose your nub, mupen can easily map the analog stick to the dpad. I've played the Zelda games just fine even without nub support.

If you are planning to use USB/Bluetooth controllers at all and play over TV-out, mupen also has good support for external controllers. So does PCSXreARMed and panmame. This has also been one of the big advantages of the EX emulators for me: they all have decent external controller support. SNES EX in my opinion is the only choice if you intend to play 2-3 player SNES games.

I found the .emu emulators better than others if you're interested in using them with a bluetooth joystick or other wireless input device. Configuration is relatively easy compared to some others (and plenty don't support external joysticks at all).

Agreed, sorry. I tend to treat most of the .emu and EX emus as the same, just different versions of the same thing.

Thanks for the the info guys!

There seems to be lots of emus for the same systems, difficult to wade through them all.

TomB - that is mindblowing news about CD32 support. Hopefully it'll support iso/cue?

On a similar note... is there any emulator to play the arcade versions of Killer Instinct 1 and 2? (The SNES version doesn't count... :p)

Back in the old days of the original Xbox I remember a great Emu called Ultra64, which emulated both KI titles perfectly. I've never again heared of this emu though, I don't know which platforms it was ported to nor what happened to it in the end. Me too I'd love to play the KI titles on my Pandy, maybe someone else can help.

I wonder if ePSXe in android works better for some of the roms that don't work well with Rearmed?

Are there games that don't work well with Rearmed? Any troubles I had went away when I used a real BIOS rom vs the HLE.

Also There is a glitch in Alien Resurrection where some control panels cannot be activated. I actually somewhat remember it being caused by an audio sync or something like that... I just know I am stuck on a level and finally found out it was the glitch and not me.

That has to be at least a slightly liberating experience...frustrating for sure, but to know that you're NOT crazy.
