Kernel Panic When Using Usb Network

When I use the usb network functionality on my gp2x (fw 2.1.1) I can use this alright through my windows xp laptop (samba works fine for instance).
However when I have my gp2x hooked up to my amd64 gentoo linux box, and I then try to browse my sd card from the gp2x I get a kernel panic on the gp2x.
Note that this only happens when I have given the 'ifconfig usb0 up 10.1.0.1' command on my gentoo box (so the respective kernel modules have already been loaded at that time). Perhaps I just need to upgrade my kernel (running version 2.6.17-gentoo-r2 at the moment), but I thought I'd better ask here first.
Does anybody have a clue what is causing this because it's very annoying to have to power up my only windows machine to use network features.

For the full kernel panic message please see here.

i get the same thing, fw2.1.1 on mk2 gp2x. i'm using current ubuntu so i doubt it's anything to do with the pc install

there is something on either wiki.gp2x.org or guyfawkes user guide about updating the kernel modules on the gp2x, perhaps give that a go?

Have you got the updated g_ether.o (for 2.6) on your GP2X?

I don't get the problem on Debian - the GP2X just hung without the new g_ether.o

yeah, you should update g_ether.o and things work like they should :)

Thanks that seems to have solved my problem.
I read about the module on the wiki, but because there was no note about this being a 2.6 host problem I didn't try it.
