It was the BEST GAME EVER... but now... it's horrible.

I loved that game on the Jaguar. Tempest 2000, I think it was.

Did this come out on PC, or a rip off version I'm sure I got it on a cover CD many years ago.
I had that demo too. I had the Jag version, so didn't get the full game - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TEMPEST-2000-PC-CD-ROM-RETRO-/130614378449?pt=UK_PC_Video_Games_Video_Games_JS&hash=item1e69393fd1

It did come out on PSX as TempestX3, and it was a pretty authentic port of the Jag game, except the music wasn't as good. I loved the Jag game.

You guys are missing the point the reason these games were so cool back then was the atmosphere and social aspect that arcades had take that away and most arcade games are pretty average but still alot of what we had back then i would kill for now todays generation dont know what they missed

Nope. They were great because they were new, fresh and original. Also you couldn't play them at home and even if you could have done, the graphics and sound would have sucked on the home machines at the time. Then the PlayStation came out and videogame arcades died - those that linger are over-run by fruit machines and coin pushers.

It's all good, Tempest is awesome on any system, imo, but I still wouldn't mind having a Jaguar again.

Hmm, I still find most of the games I loved back then still great today.

Sure, the gameplay is a lot more simpler, but I replay a lot of them and still like them.

However, I didn't like most games back then when they were crap... I always thought Double Dragon was crap, so maybe I have a different view on these things? :)

Shenmue is still great and I'm happy I haven't played it yet... most modern games don't appeal to me anymore, so any old great classic game I haven't played through yet will be another great title for me to play :)

I can't disagree, but multiplayer with friendly damage in double dragon 2 was always a good laugh...

Double Dragon now horrible?

When was last the time any of you actually put a coin into an arcade cabinet and played it?

I can't vouch for the many 8-bit 'interpretations' but the arcade version is still nice.

At least get an arcade stick if you used to play in the arcades.

And limit those credits!

Incorrect controls and unlimited credits can take the fun out of arcade games.

And some games are better with two eager to preserve their credit players.

I'm with Evil Dragon in that if I liked to play it then I still like to play it now.

On a recent trip I played through Double Dragon on my Pandora using only one credit and it was difficult and fun as ever!

Best game ever means best game ever. B)

It's all about the shoulder to the face in that game! I can get to the stupid blocks in the last level on 1 credit, but the dumb blocks coming out of the wall always tear me to pieces.

i admit that MAXWELL MANOR [Atari 8bit ver] suck balls now, it still has a creepy atmosphere , but it\s unplayable for me, now..

The game boy advance version of double dragon has a bunch extra and retro to offer, I find that to value the best.

Still, the original did impress at the time for the same reasons street fighter 1 impressed too.

I´m quite found of the music of I and II.

Thursday. It helps to have one standing in the living room. :p

I loved the old school RPGs: Final Fantasy, Dragon Warrior, etc... At the time I was all "such fun, fighting random monsters, leveling up". Having replayed the Dragon Warrior series on my Pandora, and Golden Sun, and now Tales of Phantasia, I am immensely grateful for the turbo button. What once was fun I am now finding tedious. "I've already killed a million of these goblin things. I have committed mass goblincide. There shouldn't be any left or if there are you'd hope they'd be smart enough to stay away by now!"

Golden Axe is just as much fun now as it ever was. It does look dated, but it still plays brilliantly on arcade and MegaDrive. Play it in two player and you've got gameplay in spades and laughs aplenty as you try to kick those thieves butts!

WizStan -- ohm, you got an arcade machine up finally? Used any of them pcbs?

I also regualrly hit the real machine (though I usually set mine to free-play, sometimes I keep a cup with quarters on the thing, and enforce playing that way.. keeps an edge :) -- there is a lot to be said for authentic controls, sound, etc.. the real feal. The games are much more fun on the real hardware. Can't quite explain it, but true nonetheless. (Which used to annoy me, when I was at the peek of my emu writing :)
