Hi,
I was surfing the web and I saw allot of FireFox advertisement.
So i thought let´s check it out.
It says that it´s better then internet explorer , is that true??

Do you actually think IE is good?

I use opera and could never ever ever go back to clunky, slow, buggy and spyware ridden IE.

I also use Opera. Now what's better: Opera or Firefox?
I'd say Opera but the difference is too small to justify using Opera's ad or pay versions for. Firefox also does a lot of stuff with extensions that I haven't seen Opera able to replicate.

use anything but IE :) i use FF and I am very happy with it. there are a few sites incompatible with firefox for whatever reason but this can easily be fixed with an 'Open In IE' extension for FF that opens the current page on FF into IE. Loads of many other great extensions and themes etc if you like playing around with stuff.

There are keys for Opera (use eMule for example). But, wait, use them only if you've paid Opera before! ;)

@cozmic: What are MHT-Files?

FF is just the best, period. If it was a commercial product, then I'd probably change my mind (maybe swinging over to the Opera pond), but as a free product, you can't beat it.

Firefox is way better. Just the way in which it loads pages (i.e. speeds things up, doesn;t havng round so much) makes it worthwhile, never mind all the extensions etc...

Firefox is the better browser for sure. Tabbed browsing and RSS bookmarks (inc this site!) are fantastic features I use all the time. But Microsoft know they're losing credibility, so they'll be back with an improved version of IE no doubt.

why does everyone say IE is so 'spyware ridden'. I've never had problems with IE, either with spyware or otherwise. I check my PC for viruses and spyware regularly, and the only spyware that's ever shown up is stuff I've installed with programs like Kazaa that they sneak in there.

IE works fine for me :p

Is this all?

Personally, I use Internet Explorer because I'm an uncultured luddite who has never learned how to appreciate high-quality products, and the finer things in life. I watch MTV religiously and feel no urge to seek out different music, since the songs they play "sound fine to me". My simple primate brain has been bombarded with the platitude "if it aint broke dont fix it" since early childhood, and the idea of seeking improvement simply for the sake of improvement seems alien to me. I cannot understand why anyone would want a great product instead of settling for a good one, which is why I ask others "internet explorer works fine for me so why should I bother upgrading?". I don't bother replacing my shoes until they have at least 7 holes in them, and it baffles me that anyone would do so earlier. My mobile phone resembles a brick used in the construction of a Victorian house, but this doesnt bother me - it still makes calls.

I do not respect my own life enough to realise that I deserve a higher quality web-browsing experience than the one foisted on me by the faceless barons siting in the Dell boardroom. It matters not which browser I use to aimlessly pass the time until death releases me from the bland, featureless internet world which I am doomed to inhabit for the entirity of my pitiful existence.

Easy..

1) In terms of usability, it is far better -- tab browsing? smart popup blocking? built in email and such if you want it? Whats not to love?
2) Standards compliance -- Firefox and Opera rule for following standards; IE is the one breaking all the rules. So on those rare days when FF isnt' compatible, its because the page has been made to work with IE's evil ways.. so IE is the problem :/
3) Security -- IE has none pretty much
4) Open source of course, so its a work in progress, growing, and Free (as in Freedome and beer)

FF rules.

Its like this.. you can run FF for a few weeks and browse like mad, and you're cool; you can run IE and browse for a night, then count how many apywares you picked up. This is no joke.. my wife (whose a coder) did a test.. she browsed around mostly sensible websites, and IE picked up a half dozen nasties.. in one night!

Firefox is surely better, though lately I have had a few pop-ups in it, seems like the industry is noticing too and adapting quickly :)
Yeah, all blockers can be worked around now but there should be an update soon.

Oh, FF all the way, purely because I love the sexy themes ;).

The browsing world will never standardise.

Talk to any web designer (including myself) what it's like to code web pages. Not only have you got to code for different browsers, but also different version of the browsers, and that's across the board regardless of if it's Netscape, Firefox, Opera or Internet Explorer. And they will tell you it's all a damned nightmare  .

I personally have nothing against IE as long as you have service pack 2 installed. It has a pretty good popup blocker etc built in. And don't let anyone tell you that Opera etc doesn't have popups, as a coder myself, I can tell you it's pretty easy to write a popup into a page that will popup in almost anything. And when they find a way to block that, coders will find a way round it. It's the way of the world!!!

In short, use whatever you prefer. The whole point of it all is personal choice. And in the end, isn't the term "better" down to individual taste. Myself, I think Super Noodles are better than Pasta Shells. Oops, That's personal taste again

Clare.
