Hi,

I have a PC under Windows 7 with an Internet connection and a bluetooth dongle. I want (if possible) to access internet with my Pandora via bluetooth.

My main problem right now is to setup Win7 to shared the internet connection by bluetooth. Anyone can help me ?

I don't have access to Win7, so everything I'm about to say is based on reading a few dozen pages from a search for "windows 7 bluetooth internet sharing" and figuring out what they're talking about. Apparently this question has come up a few times in other respects. Apparently ICS over bluetooth was removed with Windows 7 (or possibly Vista, it previously worked in XP at least) and is only available with third party applications such as BlueSoleil

Unfortunately, none of these 3rd party applications are free. I believe at this point, your options are to either fall back to WinXP, pay for the 3rd party software, or find a different way to do it.

You can buy a USB wifi adapter for fairly cheap, bridge to that instead of using Bluetooth, for example.

Yep I have found the same things (Microsoft bluetooth stack is a lame). Sadly BlueSoleil stack(the one that I get with my dongle) can only be install on one PC (fairly stupid if you ask me...). So I don't have any driver for my bluetooth...

I have install the 30 days trial Toshiba bluetooth stack(first stack I came accross). It seems that it can do the deal but I didn't manage to make it work.

To be sure that it is a problem on the PC side. What should I do on the Pandora side ?

Check this video. I setup BT Tethering between the Pandora and Win Mobile, but the Pandora part should be the same.

Hmmm. It doesn't ask me "Access the internet using your mobile phone" while setting up the connection. So it seems to be a problem on the Windows side, but it is strange. When I do "sdptool browse XX:XX:XX:XX:XX", i got at some point :

I'm going to try another bluetooth stake (bluesoleil) and see if it works.

Hm, indeed it's weird. It should show this when the other unit (Win in this case) offers internet connection.

Maybe Win7 only offers network but not internet?

No idea how BT services work...

I belive as already answered above, you cant use windows 7 to share internet via bluetooth using the default windows bluetooth stack it does not work, I have tried this myself searched high and low and its just not possible.

If the the bluetooth device has its own software pack/bluetooth stack then this may be possible but not with the default windows 7 bluetooth options.

So, I have a Blackberry as my phone. I can use it as a bluetooth modem (3g)

with my laptop (Win Xp) and my ipod touch (jailbroke), but my pandora doesn't

give me the tickbox "use for internet access"

It pairs ok with the Pandora, but can't figure out how to use it as

a DUN device.

should pop up in the network menu, same place as wireless networks, if it's paired properly and the phone is offering it right, think there might be a checkbox in the pairing setup wizard that says 'enable use of this as a modem' or similar

Hmm, thats sort of what I was expecting, but it goes through the pairing ok.

My BB appears in the list of paired devices as type phone.

The network icon on the pandora says No Network Devices Available

I don't see any way to list the services available from the phone (on pandora)

but I know the phone is set to advertise modem etc.

Ok, looks like VPN connections actually means "All other network connections"

and under there, there is a tab for Mobile Broadband.

It also has one of those annoying dialogues where the pop up is bigger than

the screen size, so you can't click ok. I had to "move" the window way up

to access the ok button. (Move = rightclick on window titlebar).

However, even after creating a connection profile, I don't seem to be able

to launch it yet. More poking around I guess.

Still no joy. I tried a nokia phone that I can also use as a bluetooth

modem, and the option tickbox to "use the internet" just doesn't come up.

dmesg doesn't give much away.

Is there a /dev/ entry relating to the modem that should get created?

I used to use minicom to AT stuff, so I could poke around with the raw

device or try configuring pppd.

Nokia phones don't offer PANU AFAIK. The Bluetooth applet on the Pandora only supports PANU for the moment, other bluetooth internet connections have to be setup from the command line.

Ah! That may be the same for the Blackberry then.

I got both working on windows but as manually configured

dial up modems (over BT)

I might play with Ubuntu first and then see if

the principles can be done on the P.

Any ideas on what /dev device I should be looking for?
