Well, for me its that I want a portable computer. I still wouldn't buy it if it didn't include the psx emulator. Thats what does it for me. That and the possibility of an N64 and NDS emu.
Because i'm British!Squidge said:Why will you be paying the british price?
Well i've checked this again at XE.com:TaG said:If you are paying the British price it will be £199 - same as it always was.
The $ price based on todays rate would work out at $316.
Fair enough, it was confusing how you posted in dollars. It was kinda hinting that you were not british (as otherwise you would have posted in the local currency).ashdjones said:Because i'm British!
So the people in the US pay less, right? Or am I missing something?Squidge said:Yes, it's $370 (£199) for people buying it in the UK in USD, but it's $316(~£170) for people buying it in USD who are NOT in the UK.

We're not known as 'Rip Off Britian' for nothing. It's only in the last few years we've been paying US dollar equivalent for our games consoles.
Probably it's the taxes which account for the price difference.
Meanwhile, back on topic....
You mean we have higher import tax?Squidge said:People in the US don't pay UK Tax.

I beliee VAT is the real stinger.
You don't have VAT (or something similar) in the US?Pleng said:I beliee VAT is the real stinger.

No, just sales tax, federal, state, city and local taxes.

What? The Pandora will be sold by a company in the UK. Therefore you need to add VAT before you sell it. If it is exported outside the country, VAT does not apply (The company or person importing it however *may* end up with import charges).
Nothing is being imported to the UK.
If you fancy your luck, you can try and import an exported Pandora from the US. You might get it for £170+shipping, or you might get stung with import duty and other taxes making it well over £200.
Now can we get back to the original topic?
I thought they were imported from China?Squidge said:What? The Pandora will be sold by a company in the UK. Therefore you need to add VAT before you sell it. If it is exported outside the country, VAT does not apply (The company or person importing it however *may* end up with import charges).
Nokia's install system ain't that great actually. The Application Manager is a horribly instable piece of crap that barfs on even one offline repository and I've just experienced the greatness of the online OS update facility: It left me with a non-updated and non-updatable tablet. Back to reflashing.chad78 said:The closest, (IMHO), device on the market to a Pandora is the Nokia N810. Same architechture, same screen resolution, similiar screen size, similiar size overall, both have touchscreens, both have keyboards, both run (some flavor of) Linux, both have dual flash card slots, both are pocketable,... etc. But the Pandora is more powerful - has a more pocket-friendly clamshell design, has gaming controls, and (as I mentioned) is at least 1.5 times as powerful. (Over twice as powerful when overclocked.)
Pedantic insert: The N810 only has one (micro)SD card slot. The N800 has two SD slots, but no keyboard, GPS or WiMax.

And... it's cheaper. Over $100 cheaper (when compared to the full price of the N810 - about $50 cheaper if you shop around for the N810). But even if it was full price, you're getting a far more powerful machine, just not all the bells and whistles.
The question comes down to what you are looking for. If GPS, WiMax, and a (not-very-good) camera are important features to you - then get a N810. If having a full operating system with a bunch of ready-to-install-point-and-click-style applications out of the box is important - get a N810.
You hit the nail RIGHT on the head with this post. I'm a current Cowon D2 player and while many in the Cowon community is excited about the higher end players - I can't feel the same excitement seeing how they cost more then 100 bucks more then the more-then-capable Pandora (like the P5).PolloLoco said:For further reasons to buy this, research PMP's - portable movie and audio players. Specifically the Archos 605, Cowon Q5, and Cowon P5. The cheapest of those is $270 (when you purchase codecs to match the Pandora). The Cowon Q5 can't be found for under $450.
The Pandora beats all PMP's for codecs natively. It'll play just about any video and audio file you throw at it. It almost played 720P files at 100% speed, WITHOUT optimization.
In short, the Pandora will thoroughly replace my Archos 504 which I paid $330 for 2 years ago. And that's not even beginning to get into gameplay - consider that a bonus. ;-)
As an audio player, after extensive research - there's no mp3 player that has all the following features:
Bluetooth stereo, Touchscreen, Line Out, SD Expansion, Wifi
Plus it has a Ray Burr DAC that should put other mp3 players to shame. All in a profile that fits in your pocket.
