iMito MX1 Android 4.1 TV BOX,anyone know it?

There are a few models of the lapdock, the one you want is the lapdock 100 .  They tend to go for $50 - $60 on ebay (I was a bit of)

I'm quite close to buying an Archos Gamepad but this is interesting. I'd probably be sold if the lapdock had a touch screen monitor. Happen to know how close the ARM edition of Ubuntu (Linux in general) is in terms of available software compared to x86/x64 versions?

If anyone is interested, this is what I picked up to hook up my iMito MK1 to the Lapdock 100

It looks like the Lapdocks have a male micro usb and a male micro hdmi port.  Finding female micro hdmi connectors is almost impossible--seems like just one random ebay seller has them.

I think the following setup should work though:

USB
Female Micro USB to Male Regular USB - $5.59 shipped from China

HDMI

Female HDMI to Male Micro - $5 shipped from China

I will let you know how everything comes together once it all gets here...  Have to wait for it to show up from HK though so it'll be a few weeks.

Cheers,

Mike

Has anyone tried hooking up a USB TV tuner to one of these things?  Does it work?  Any recommendations on which one to get if you are primarily in the USA?

Hey, did you get the iMito working with the lapdock 100? I read that the lapdock 100 wouldn't work, only the original atrix lapdock (like the one in the video) would work?

Still waiting on a few parts from China on the micro USB end (power).

Where did you read it wouldn't work with the 100?

I've been having a lot of fun with my Lapdock+MK802 combination .. it really rocks to be able to take it from "laptop mode" to "TV mode" really easily .. I like that so much!

But now I lust for more power.  Does anyone here in this thread have any suggestions for a quad-core PC-stick that I might be able to place instead of the mk802?  I have to say that being able to easily upgrade my laptop like this is the absolutely coolest thing this century .. ;)

There is only one (and some copies) quad core PC Stick that I know of , its the GK802.  It runs the Freescale SOC and has good Linux support

There are also a squillion PC sticks that run the dual core Rockchip RK3066 like the iMito Mx1.  Probably a better SOc than the Freescale but Linux is only just being ported to it as we speak.

I'm not sure though if these can hook up to a lapdock, will have to look into it.

P.S  I'm hoping the next Pandora would be be powered by one of these so that it can be easily upgraded.  Not likely though

Edit :  Here's a vid with a MK808 which uses the dual core RK3066

Hmmm.. I'd prefer Freescale over Rockchip, so I'll have a look at that GK802, thanks for that .. I think the NAND can be upgraded too, can't it - its just a microSD card in a slot?

Ok so all my parts arrived but I'm still having problems.  It looks like all of the wires are good as far as i can tell...  When I hook everything up, the iMito boot screen comes up, but then the whole screen just turns dark and never comes back on.  The power stays on for another 10 seconds or so and then just craps out.  If I have the lapdock hooked up to the wall, the power light on the iMito stays on, but the screen never comes back on.

It's like it thinks there's no video signal so it just craps out.  I know some of the PI guys said they had to run some script to keep the HDMI output always on...  I wonder if I have to do some similar thing for my iMito?  I'll try some googling and see what I can come up with...  I'd welcome any ideas though.  I did notice that you can "power" the iMito off of just the USB OTG port (power & data) and do not need to hook up to the "official" 5V DC power port.

aaaand I got it working.

I hooked it up to an external power source first, then connected it to the lapdock and started it up once it was already up and running.

I think in the time between the iMito bios boot screen and the "full" android boot, the iMito stops sending HDMI and then the lapdock shuts itself off after not seeing a video signal.  You can get around that by booting the iMito before you hook it up to the lapdock.  Not exactly the most "portable" solution but I'll keep messing around and see if I can get it working without the preboot trick.

I'll play around with it some more and see if I can find an easier way to get it started up.

That blackberry cable I linked above is a champ btw--providing one cable with both USB power and USB data and a second cable that did USB power only--the only cable i could find that did both.

Man...  I went to dinner and left it plugged into the wall and everything was working, I come back and now the lapdock is dead dead and won't power on.  wtf???

Not sure if anyone really cares ; )  But I returned my Lapdock 100 and picked up an ATRIX 4G instead.  This guy works like a champ and I got everything up and running on the first try.

The iMito MX1/2 Finless Bob v1.5 custom firmware helped, I think.  The original iMito firmware would stop pushing HDMI out for about 20 seconds when it was booting up.  The Finless Bob firmware boots faster and has a "loading" screen which keeps the HDMI alive and prevents the Lapdock from shutting down.  So definitely upgrade to the latest custom ROM if you plan to use the MX1/2 with a lapdock.

Movies and emulators work great but I have been having some resolution/text input issues with Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (my roguelike of choice now on Android!) -- can't seem to get all the text to "fit" on the screen (the bottom line scrolls off the bottom and I can't find an easy way to lower the font size), can't make the onscreen keyboard go away even though I have a hardware keyboard, and can't get it to recognize some of the special keys like shift-/ (aka ?).

Anyway, a pretty sweet project that I can switch from Laptop to HDTV.  Also easily upgradable with the newest HDMI sticks!

I'm getting rid of my lapdock 100 too, in favor of an Atrix lapdock.

It's a shame the lapdock 100 doesn't work properly with android sticks, its keyboard's so much nicer compared to the Atrix lapdock.

I did get the 100 to work for awhile...  Then something toasted the battery.  I don't know if it was the iMito's fault, or the 100s fault or just a fluke but it wouldn't turn on anymore.  No problems so far with the Atrix.  And yes, the Atrix keyboard is not nearly as nice as the 100...

my lapdock 100 would only stay on for a couple of seconds, even if I connect the imito after the boot sequence and it get to the homescreen, no idea why, tried different cables, different roms, mess around with settings, and it still won't work... the atrix's just so much easier to get to work
