Hi, I just registered on this forum, so I hope I'm posting in the right place!

Hyperion is a 2d platform shooter I'm developing using SDL. It's a wip, but I felt that the
game is stable enough to release a small demo. Level editor included!
Tested on F200, but it doesn't use the touch screen so it should work on F100 as well.

Game is about 6MB.

Controls:
Menu:
A or B to accept current selection. (X or Z on PC)
Game:
Jump with B-button. (Z on PC)
Shoot with R-button. (S on PC)
Press Home to return to main menu. (Enter on PC)

Steer with the arrow-keys / d-pad.
Use SCREENRES.txt to change screen resolution for the PC version.

Hope you like it! ^^

Hi, and welcome :)

Screenshots look very promising, I'll give your game a go ASAP !

Don't forget to upload it on the Archive !

A post in the news section would be great too :)

btw, Hyperion is also the name of a company working on Amiga, I hope it doesn't matter...

EDIT with first impressions:

+ Main menu
+ Parallax scrolling !!!
+ Dying animation
+ Animated sprites
+ Hand drawn graphics ? / Pixel Art

- Music (doesn't fit well in this game IMO)
- Some inertia when jumping...
- Enemies...

It looks really promising, and with more levels, some story line, different weapons, enemies, stages, etc...it could really be a great game !

I'll post my impressions about the level editor later :)

Bye, and thanks for the hard work !

Magic Sam

Thanks for trying my game! ^^
I've now uploaded it to the archive as well; http://dl.openhandhelds.org/cgi-bin/gp2x.cgi?0,0,0,0,35,2843.
I copied the text from the minisite so the formatting got a little weird, sorry about that.

Glad you liked the graphics, the music and sound effects where more or less thrown in there(this started as a school project, so I was working towards a deadline), but I kinda like the music. :p
Hyperion is a moon of Saturn(why I chose the name), and originally a Greek god according to almighty Wikipedia.
More levels, enemies and weapons will be added sooner or later. ;)

I think I've found a bug in the level editor:

If you add a starting point somewhere, and then you delete it, you can't add it again, anywhere :(

You have to save your level, exit the editor, and load your level again to be able to add a new starting point.

Bye, Magic Sam

Ok, I'll have a look at that.

Edit: Weird, I can't replicate that error on the GP2X or Windows. :/
Edit2: Nvm, searched through the code and found at least one thing that could cause that error. :p
Edit3: Fixed, I think. There are however some other bugs in the level editor. Sometimes you can
spawn in some crazy places, when you have a small level roughly the size of the gp2x screen.
Lol. I'll have a look at that some other day. ;)

Nice game zzz :) The graphics and music fit very well.

I'll keep an eye out for updates and more levels. By the way, depending on what toolchain you use, a Wiz port could be as easy as removing the -static flag in front of the libraries you link with.

Thanks for playing!
I'll have a look at porting it for the Wiz.
There may also be an osx port sometime in the distant future. ;)

Very cool, can't wait to see how this progresses. Off topic, I guess there's no way in hell that Soul Hunter could be ported to the GP2X or the Wiz? Maybe the Wiz has a better chance since it has a 3D GPU?
