Hunting And Today's Protest

I dont think the hunters would like to be chased by 20 odd dogs and killed...

Its just sick and if they find it fun to do, they need locked up in a mad house.

Chirst so everyone is really THAT bothered about foxes?? Also why is there a strange about of vegetarians on here??? Did i also here that fishing is cruel??? Give me a break for god sake.
Very lame - Bacon Bap anyone??

I think you're all missing the wider issue (regardless of whether you think fox hunting is wrong or right - and bear in mind that it IS the tip of the iceberg, but that's not what I want to talk about).

Don't you think it is pretty rediculous to use the Parliament act to force through something as trivial as a fox hunting ban, when we are at war with Iraq (for no reason) and knackering the planet we live on (officially now, according to Tony).

Interesting too that out of Labours '50 promises' that they distributed on their little cards to get themselves elected, the only one (correct me if I am wrong) that they are actually going to come through on is banning fox hunting! And they're using the Parliament act to do it!

The trouble is that the (UK) government is a closed society, where once you get in, your ideals go out of the window because the party will force you to adopt their line, and the benefits for doing so are fabulous...

Even if fox hunting is banned (and do you really think it will stop it happening - the police can't even be bothered to catch criminals any more - why would they give a fuck about an illegal fox hunt?) it'll will just be reintroduced as soon as the Tories get back in.

Nothing is ever going to change...

...unless everybody starts voting for the Motorist Party.

ok, do you have any pets or animals like a dog (cos thats what foxes are).

How would you like it if someone set 10 dogs on your dog ( If you have one, Or other animal) and let them rip it appart.

You are a Very Lame and sick bastard if you think running foxes over and killing them is fun or setting lots of dogs on one fox is fun.

They have to use it tho cause the Lords are the snobs who are generally in favour of hunting.

Another vegatarian here so no surprise I'm also against fox hunting. If you think it's cruel to do such a thing to a dog or cat you should realise it's equally cruel to do it to a fox: their bodies and nerve sytems are about the same so any differences are strictly in our minds, their experience will be exactly the same.

If you do think it's okay to do this to a dog or cat you probably shouldn't say it out loud, most serial-killers start out that way, you are a sick, sick puppy ;)

And yes, fishing is cruel, anyone telling you a fish doesn't feel a thing when you drive a hook through it's mouth is lying, probably to defend why it's okay to fish. Fish also feel pain/get wounded when being handled and when the hook is removed. I understand why people eat meat and fish and also think it's a natural thing but I get a little irritated when people start saying animals do not feel pain or stress.

Fox hunting is what people care about; wahtever Micheal Howard says. The British really do care about animals.

I doubt the Tories would change it, as we have what's known as a responsible Government, where new governments aren't supposed to change the previous governments work.

A responsible government? Are you having a laugh?

And I think you are being a little naive if you think most people care more about fox hunting then war with other countries, the environment, endless taxation, housing shortages, etc.

Personally, I am against fox hunting - but there a many things in life that are more important which I think government really ought to be working on...

Its not just about Fox Hunting (which as another veggie I am obviously against), its also about democracy and the constitution of the UK.

The people voted for a Government which promised to ban fox hunting in its official maifesto.

The elected representatives have voted on numerous occasions to ban fox hunting.

However, we still have not seen a ban on fox hunting, and why not?
The House of Lords is why not. We need to make sure this issue gets sorted out, not just to end a cruel. evil and barbaric pastime, but also to make sure that our democracy is working and that the House of Lords is put into its place. (or hopefully abolished completely).

What are you guys on about? Do you *really* think that banning fox hunting is more important than anything else? Wake up, FFS...

And by the way,
The House of Lords is why not. We need to make sure this issue gets sorted out, not just to end a cruel. evil and barbaric pastime, but also to make sure that our democracy is working and that the House of Lords is put into its place. (or hopefully abolished completely).

- If the house of Lords still vote against it THAT IS OUR DEMOCRACY! If you don't agree with that then your issue should be removing the House of Lords democratically - not simply bypassing them using the Parliament Act...

The governments arent just focusing on this issue; they are probably working on others. But myself I see this as an issue because its the way I am.... and yea. But I dont like the Lords they are everything I am against wrapped up into a group of twats.

in its current form the house of lords is not democratic.

of all EU states that have an upper chamber we are of one or two that has a chamber that is not democratically elected. when a chamber is made up of peers and cabinet nominated people it really isn't a force for democracy.

That's true - I'm not suggesting it IS democratic, just that it is how our current democracy works, and if we want to change it, we should change it democratically.

Come to think of, why don't they use the Parliament Act to remove the house of Lords? Surely that's a better use for it...

There do seem to be a freakishly large amount of vegetarians here but that's beside the point, I'm basically a carnivore and I still think it's sick. Fishing on the other hand...

There's hardly a issue in Britian today that so many people are united on. And yeah, we do have a Responsible Government, I promise you.

Mark - this isn't anything personal, but for my benefit, can you give me some examples of where this government has been responsible?

Responsible Government means the Government of the day doesn't undo all the work of the prevouis one. It's a Gentlemen's agreement, and while not entrentched in law is still respected.
