How do you start telnetd?

I want to use the X11 from my laptop on my Pandora, so I'm trying to use the DISPLAY on my Pandora to show X11 programs from my laptop over telnet, but from what I understand, both computers have to be connected to each other through telnet. I can't connect my laptop to my Pandora that way because the Pandora's telnetd won't work right.

I typed sudo telnetd and then logged in, but my computer can't connect to my Pandora.

EDIT: Nevermind, delete this thread. I was doing it wrong!

This is how I do it, however I use ssh:

On the pandora, open a shell type:

xhost +
this allows EVERYONE sending you x things... you might want to change that later on

then still on the OpenPandora:

ssh -X user@ipaddress
And once logged in, type in xclock or something else.... works for me.

As for using telnet, once connected, you will need to (additionally to xhost +)

export DISPLAY=pandoraipaddress:0
from that point on, the X programs should work too.

And the other way around (forward X stuff from the OpenPandora to your Linux workstation):

On the openPandora, open a shell, and become root with

sudo su
From there, start the ssh deamon, in our case that is dropbear:

/etc/init.d/dropbear start
Now it should be possible to ssh to your pandora:

ssh -X user@pandoraipaddress
and once logged in, try opening something X, like:

mousepad
But of course, you can also open a pnd from the commandline, try:

pnd_run /media/PANTOFFEL/pandora/menu/jumpman.pnd

Having problems with my xauth... not sure what to do now... probably will go to sleep and tinker in the weekend with this.

to fix xauth issues, simply symlink your ~/.Xauthority file to the appdata of the PND you want to run. For Java-based PNDs, the symlink should be placed in appdata/java

Also, mousepad segfaults on remote X11 display. I've built leafpad as a replacement

leafpad.gz

hmm... still not working for me. Do you have any other pointers?

Maybe is the problem that xorg dont listen to tcp by default, x2x is an old tech and not has no security(just keep this in mind).
dont have the pandora spec in head so you can simply try the following:

grep -iHr "nolisten" /etc/X11

if you get this string somewhere:

  /usr/bin/X -nolisten tcp "$@"
just remove the part after /usr/bin/X

restart x, now you can use xhost +

maybe you need a

export DISPLAY=:0 #(on server site)
now you can use x2x on client site

but this only share your mouse and keyboard with the "server"

so far to the x2x part ...

i give up to use xforwarding, it's to slow for me, but

dont use telnet, always use ssh

but beware, if you use Xforwarding the performace is dirty.
