Have I Been A Bit Silly?

Hi guys,

i have been an avid GP32 user for the last 2 years now (love it - gp32_console :D ), so as i was on craigs mailing list i was with the other being first in line for a GP2x, so i ordered it instantly......... But................ then i looked things up on the forums, and felt a little sick, i know i should have checked first, but i was under the impresion that it would run all that the GP32 would - and some!

I mostly use the GP32 for turbographics and c64 emulation, including a little NES and SNES play, so my query is, have i done the right thing by ordering this console?

Any reasurance would be greatfull, and any new news on the mentioned emulations would be appreciated.

Cheers guys.

c17.

I'd say it was wrong to preorder because we'll have to wait and see what will run on the GP2X and what not.

have you got a gp32 then, and i take it you've no intention of ordering a GP2x?
Plus, if you wait and it becomes popular, it'll be hard to get and Very expencive, look what happened to the PSP, there's no stock in the UK at all. but i appreciate your comments, cheers.

From what I gathered, the GP2X will be able to emulate any system that the GP32 can (of course, this will come graually as developers work on the emulators), and then some. I heard talk about it running GP32 programs as well, with wrappers, although that may never happen.

The way I'll go about it is wait for a year or so, and pick up an 'upgraded' version of the 2X, after GPH will straighten out any remaining glitches and pack it full of features. :) (think NLU - BLU)

On a random note, I can't imagine people selling their GP32's to get money for GP2X's! Have you people no conscience? ;)

I think it would be safest to expect that pretty much no emulation will be available from the start.

On the other hand I wouldn´t be surprised if work on c64 emulation (frodo) is started the minute the SDK is released. If not sooner ;)

Actually it's the other way around: I've got no GP32 and I'll get a GP2X at launch. What I meant is that, if you expect certain software on the GP2X, it was wrong to preorder because we can not be sure it will be availiable.

Those that pre-order will get 100% more value out of their machine than those who don't. Because those who pre-order get to enjoy the new!

Not everyone enjoys The New as much as you seem to do. Some will even be annoyed by having to wait for certain stuff to come out.

Relax, it'll be great!

It will do everything the GP32 can, only better. ANd there will be new horizons to explore, new systems etc.

I really hope that one day we will have a snes emu as good as Drmd.

We'll have to wait a bit. But in the meantime, just stick around, pull yourself a drink, have a dance with one of these beautiful ladies, and party.

I bet there will be a few emus with the preorder boxes, like SNES and GBA but how well they run is a whole different question.

SNES and GBA? I think you are dreaming a bit. I think you will have more along the lines of ColecoVision and Gameboy at launch ;)

The others will come someday but not for awhile.

I preordered with gp32z and i can't wait to get my hands on the gp2x! It may not have a lot of stuff out for it right away but i'm sure it will have some stuff (a few emu's and quake). I just love having new toys, so to me it was definitely worth it (plus, its about time i upgrade from my nlu gp32)

Put it like this: if it doesn't do what you need it to out of the box, you can always keep using your GP32 for a while longer until the programs do arrive on the scene. There is little doubt in my mind that good (if not necessarily perfect) emus for all the systems mentioned will be among those to arrive in, say, the first 6-10 months; they're all fairly mainstreem.

If you'd said your main use of the GP32 was Lynx or Wonderswan emulation, then I wouldn't have the same attitude necessarily - they'll probably arrive, but they could take a fair while. But for TG16 (iirc fPce exists, which *should* be arriving soon-ish for the GP32 and probably for the X2), C64 (very popular system --> chances of an emu arriving extremely high), Nes (fNes or some random Linux emu port), and Snes (a lot tougher, but I believe Chui has announced he's porting Snes4all, which should hopefully do some of the trick :) ) you shouldn't have problems after the first little while - for which, there's always the GP32 :)

It all comes down to faith... I really believe this little machine is destined for great things, and if by putting my money where my big fat mouth usually is I help encourage developers to take it up - thus benefitting both early adoptors and latecomers - then I'm happy to do so!

I need something to fill the void that the zodiac promised to, but eventually couldnt fill. I reckon this is it :D

So get back to work folks, start cranking those emu's out! Fame, Glory, and the eternal thanks of millions await!

PS - Skeezix, find some way of putting usb mouse support into a GP2x version of Castaway/and or UAE and I promise to stop sending you those naked pictures of myself.

I also love colecovision! I have about 20 colecovision roms on my gp32 right now and am always eager to try more. If you don't mind, would you please PM me a list of your favorite colecovision games? (don't post them here, it could bog down the thread)
