GP32c on Slashdot

bastards!
they just totally ripped into it, didn't see many positive comments from people

shall we see how long my server holds up under that link, who do you think will crash first, handos (this site) or mine? lol

Personally, its exactly what I'd expect: Some people think its fake, some people cry and moan because of possible piracy, and some people rant over how a couple of facts in the post are wrong (i.e. primarily GBA emulation). Its Slashdot as usual, but who cares... it gets the name out more than most places, and will probably sell some units. Anything that does that is good :).

As one of the people who came over from slashdot....

Where's the best place to start with information about this little device...

I have to admit I'm intrigued by a handheld that appears to be able to run multiple emulators.

http://faq.gp32emu.com/

this board right here is great as well.

some more useful newbie info: btw keep in mind my GP32 hasn't found it's way into myhands yet, but I have researched it a bit!

-excellent sega master system emulation
-excellent turbografx-16/PC-Engine emulation
-supposedly there's a "near-complete" sega genesis/megadrive emulator coming, but I'll believe it when I see it.
-decent working NES emu, capable of perfect one if they finish it!
-great c64 emu too
-also in the works - spectrum, colecovision (just like GBA)
-front light unit (a la afterburner) coming

on top of all of that, any SNES/GBA is a bonus!

bear in mind it's not terribly "plug n play" out of the box, unlike GBA..

Welcome!

I have been trying to knock down some of the FUD over there.

We should get some more owers and maybe even a few more coders out of this.

Geez, what a bunch of nintendo worshipping zombies...

*whine* I bet it weighs 3 tons (they spelled tons wrong too)
*whine* It's a GBA wannabe.
*whine* I bet it costs more than N-gage
*whine* I'm just trying to cover up the fact that i'm kicking myself for wasteing money on a nokia and SP pre-order *whine*

I think the anti-troll patrol needs to get down there. PRONTO.

Yep. They didn't even give any links to any reviews, or proof of the GBA emulator.
Why doesn't someone give them a link to the image of the GBA emulator emulating F-Zero?

What is that site, anyway? Reminds me of http://www.fark.com ... ;)

BTW, for cerebusUS;

http://www.gamepark.tk (not a news site, but big on information, has a very useful emulator page)
http://www.gp32news.com (very good news site)
http://www.gp32emu.com (very good news site)
http://www.gp32x.de (this site, also a very good news site)

http://pub61.ezboard.com/bgp32 (Don Miguel's First GP32 Support Forum)

P.S. Just in case I mislead anyone about the GBA emulator; it's not public yet, and it runs at around 10fps.

P.P.S. http://www.Play-asia.com also sells GP32s for $149. They're located in asia, of course, but I hear they have fast shipping.

If you already know about the GP32 the Slashdot article is a good laugh, lets look at some of the well informed posts about the article.

How does it emulate the SNES with only two buttons?

To use this as a replacement for a GBA you need more hardware than just the GP32. You also will need a GBA cart reader.

Just two of the posts from slashdot that made me laugh, but hey any publicity for the GP32 community has to be a good thing

hello. nice to think there are at least one or two people on /. who aren't complete braindead morons.

more mainstream coverage of the GP32 will be complete once I finish my rather long GP32 review for HEXUS.net - i'm lazy tho, and have a couple of new games for my GameCube which have kept me busy...

Whooops I did not see this thread so I started another one - I think the Slashdot forum users (the ones who replied to the article anyway!) dont know what they are missing.

I guess they are all from the US? I deal with people from the US every day and they are seem to be the same..... pity on them! ;)

Well, I'm pretty sure slashdot has a following in more than the US :). But as with most sites, its the moronic people who post ignorant, flaming remarks on forums... sometimes even drunkenly... oops, did I say too much?!?!

Seriously though, you don't seem bad, but you're showing your ignorance by complaining about an entire population's ignorance.

And yes, I'm from the US... here, let me put in a "Dude, ph35r the l33t GP32" so I don't scar your image of Americans and appear well-spoken or something.

 Stealthily leaves the area before being flamed...

That comment is so stupid, it must be a troll :p

I dont think someone that has a huge collection of consoles would care or not whether the gp32 is viable or not he would buy the thing anyway to add to his collection.

So at the moment im affraid only people that would like to program or like a bit of originality would purshase it.

For the development stage i think its a great machine, its like programming on the next generation of gameboy or something this machine is very powerful, so if you intend on getting a programming job in the next five years on a next generation of portable games machine this could be a step forwards.

Also if you wanted to code for gba you would have to buy a linker and a blank flash cart, and that if more expensive than gamepark. And the processor intructions are the same on gba as on gamepark so you could port the game easy (the assembly bits, which are normally the hardest bits to port) and change just a few things.
