Hey guys, finally decided to become a member today ^-^ (had a gp2x for a while just never bothered registering)

Is it just me or is the scene slowing down? no updates from our best coders for a while and we're getting 1 or 2 updates a day?
Im just saying this because im following the psp scene too (thou i dont own one) and their getting like 6 updates daily in comparison to our 2 or maybe 3...

Are the big coders just too busy fighting their way through code and such to post an update? Sorry if im totally wrong or anything ^-^

But hey, im still enjoying DrMDx,PCengine and squidgeSNES so im not asking for a full complete playstation emulator TODAY ^-^ lol , im just asking if coders are still working on thier apps ^-^

Yeah, it's been slowing down, probably trying to get back on its feet after the 20-day coding competition :)

But seriously, it happens. It'll pick up again. And it'll always be better than the PSP. Yes.

I have noticed that many updates have slowed and or stopped too. I don't know maybe coders are getting bored of the GP2X, or maybe it is the time of year?

Well, I can assure you that one project is still being actively worked on ;)

Here's a (maybe not-so cryptic) hint:

Sweet, a homebrew game based off of Street-car Named Desire!
Count ME IN!

Ohhh, wait, now I get it... ;)

And not to be Critical, but I think these claims about the scene slowing down are a bit Fishy, to say the least.

Ummm, hey, anyone seen Airplane? "What's your Vektar, Victor." what a great line (OK, now i'm reaching.)

haha lol ^-^
yeah the one thing thats keeping me happy is that its the spawn of the gp32 and since its the same community sonner or later they should all come around and code the 2x's ass off!

One thing that kicked me in the nuts thou was that the psp is gonna start doing playstation games (although you'll have to buy them HAHAHAHAHAHHAAH)
plus the N64 emulator is slowwwwwly creeping up

Im very chuffed with my gp2x anyway (except with the firware update my left side of the scren had a white line on it -_-)
plus it needs No compression for movies and has Tvout! how could the psp POSSIBLY WIN?

Now that's just silly. Stop making stupid puns.

I think that's why the scene's slowing down. Everybody's too busy making crap jokes.

For things like emulators, once they get beyond the "quick dirty port of existing codebase" stage, the progress becomes slower and more difficult.

The most obvious and straightforward ports of open source stuff also probably get done first and the more difficult to adapt ones get worked on, which take longer.

I don't know how many gp2x's have been sold, but it's probably a rather small number (5000 - 10000? just a guess). That's a pretty small community so there's only so much "new stuff" that will continually pour out.

Most days there's something interesting though, which is more than I can keep up with anyway.

I agree 100% with Dzz.

This is the good time. This is when we start seeing the good stuff. It won't come out as fast, because this kind of quality takes time. A few great projects are starting to appear, and you will recognise them becuase they are the ones that get updated as opposed to abandoned. Linux has created a level of lazyness, and the abilty to overclock the GP2X has reinforced this.

I suspect development hasn't really slowed its actually getting a whole lot faster. If you look at IRC #gp2xdev you see numbers of people interested in development are if anything growing.

Damn... summer is coming... all the coders will be busy running around outside, getting their bellies tanned in the sun and... WAIT! We are nerds!!! We never go outside! Oh yeah...

Yeah, ive noticed the slowdown, ive also gotten a bit bored with my 2X. But i cant complain, anything that keeps me interested for more than 10 minutes deserves some praise. i still look forward to future firmwares, redesign of the menu and emulator updates.

its the way it goes, sometimes theres periods with loads of releases and sometimes hardly any. my guess is that most devs are working on their next project at the moment so not many releases, also our coding compo would have probably meant a releases that were originally intended for a later release were rushed through to be entered.

i currently have two gp2x projects on the go, one a long term and one short. i am swapping between them when the mood suits me but Deal Or No Deal will probably be released by the end of the month, Rockstar Ate My Hamster remake is much further off, probably another two or three months at least.

coding software takes alot of time so expect to see lack of releases for a while then a flood of new stuff after.

Do you want many small insignificant updates (but often) or rather big, significant ones but showing much more rarely?

I have already lost track of the all software what was relased for gp2x. Except few problematic things the state of things are pretty good now.

Look at the Outcast... it's near perfect and rushing anything isn't needed. The same apply for most other gp2x's software as well.

Let save something for the future. :)

no thats not wat i was meaning, id like it if the developers posted a small news post telling us how their doing so we know theive not died ^-^

I must admit that would be nice, just so we know a project hasn't died lol, however i'm sure our wonderful devs have better things to do........... Like coding. :D
