Gp2x Doesn't Turn On With Batteries

Okay, the gp2x really works quite well for me. I was able to flash it to cramfs with no problems, my SD card works perfectly, the screen roxx, the stick is fine for me but the only thing that has not worked from the beginning has been the batteries!

I can use my beloved gp2x only on a power supply. I have tried all kinds of rechargebles and normal batteries and none would make the gp2x turn on.
I have thought about the possibility that the contacts in the battery compartment might not reach the batteries... I have tried to bend them a little very carefully... nothing changed.

Is there anyone that has had an issue like that before? Did the contacts come off of the pcb because of bad soldering??? Is it safe to open up the device and solder them on myself or should I send the unit back to lik-sang?

If I wanted to play Genesis at home I wouldn't have gotten a handheld... <_<

I had the same thing happen to me before, and I sent the 2x back. There's something wrong with yours and should be replaced.

are your batteries rattling around when you put them in? Mine did, and so I bent the battery connectors of the gp2x out with pliers so that they would make contact.

Panic not! I had the SAME problem with my GP2X. You don't need to send the unit back or anything of the like. All you have to do is get a piece of aluminum foil and fold it up many times over and over until it reaches the appropriate thickness to slip in between the metal contact of the GP2X and the battery. This requires a lot of patience to get the correct amount of aluminum foil . What I find helps is that you push the battery (which ever one is loose, could be both too) back and forth against the contacts and that should give you an idea to how much space is in between the battery and the contact. If you need any additional help, just drop me a PM.

It depends. I had an issue where rechargables would not work and normal batteries would last about 1-3 minutes after boot-up. In this case, I don't think there is a workaround. I returned mine to the manufacturer and the replacement worked great.
If it won't turn on no matter what though, it might be a contact issue...

Are you using digital batteries? My GP2X will not turn on with digital rechargeables, but works fine with photo batteries. Take a look at this thread for information about this.

My GP2X wouldn't work on batteries, so I was going to send it back to GBAX. For a few days after I got the e-mail, I barely used by GP2X at all. Then I decided to put some batteries in as a final test or something (OK, I was desperate) and it worked! :)

I also noticed that when I left my GP2X plugged in to the mains for too long (3-4 hours) without using it it would stop working on batteries. Leaving it to rest for a day fixed it.

Weird... well I am going to check this over again and if I cannot find it working I will send it back. I also though about wiring a battery pack to the DC plug but that wouldn't be the real deal...

I think the batteries touch the contacts though, since I cannot hear them rattle and I already bent the contacts a little...

From the topic I read, try this:

Do not use the GP2X for a day with the PSU.

Then try the batteries.

now this is creeping me out, rechargables only work like 15 minutes in my gp2x, but I dont want to send it back.... :(

So, it is true what evildragon was saying... even though raven says:
I couldn't find any Ansmann Photo batteries anywhere, only 2600 Digital so I mailed Ansmann. In their reply they say that the Photo, Digital and the regular 2600 (2600 without any other specifications) are identical just labeled differently for marketing purposes.
?

Maybe all my batteries are "digital" then...

No digital Batteries...
-Panasonic extreme power non rechargebles Alkaline
-albinar rechargebles 2300mah Ni-MH

I have 3 different brands of batteries, now. My 1800MAh "Gold Peak" batteries are just slightly shorter than my newer ones.

When I originally got my GP2X, I used it with alkalines, and it worked fine (for about 20min).

When I switched to my Gold Peak batteries, they looked like they made contact, but they felt a little loose in there. I could have sworn that the contacts were touching, but when I got my volt meter out, I didn't get a reading. I got my needle-nose pliers and bent the contacts around a bit and it worked fine after that.

After I put my newer 2600MAh NiMH batteries in there (which are longer than the Gold Peaks), I think they pushed the contacts back again. Now it works fine with the 2600s, but the Gold Peaks are loose again.

I think this is a common problem, and it's very likely that's what your problem is.
