Gp2x - Basic Info Faq

I've pointed gp2x.net at this faq for the time being.

Could you put a bit at the very start explaining that it's a handheld games console so people know exactly what a GP2X is when they start reading?

LikSang is wrong.
I have confirmed this with Gamepark, seems Lik Sang's info is accurate. Unless this is a translation mistake in Gameparks email ("amplifies the resolution of GP2x into 480x640 from 240x320")...

OK, I'll check into it.

If you're correct, then perhaps they've limited the TV-Out's functionality due to time constraints, but previous information said that TV-Out would be full res, not 320x240 scaled up. The SOC certainly supports it.

It may be that they're referring to the GP2X's menu's and apps being scaled up - they'd have to be. But video decoding and output is another story. I'll check into it.

It also depends how you interpret it. A game will be written for 320x240, so on TV out it will be expanded up to TV res. Movies depend on what screen resolution the media player application selects. If it selects TV resolution, then the scaler hardware will shrink the movie down for LCD display, and play it at the selected resolution for TV out. If the media player selects 320x240 for display, it will be just like a 320x240 game.

Could you ask them for SDIO at the same time, because that would simply rock and be a warranty for success (Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, etc).

got on the preorder list.
got the email notice on Sept. 15th, checked out the new site.
decided i didn't want to order yet, since the picture showed a white GP2X.
found out that all current GP2Xs will be black.

ordered my GP2X a few days ago, totally can't wait. although yeah, it'd be nice if they included the TV-out cable.

woohoo! :D

okay, enough excitement, my real reason for posting here is that the FAQ's link gives me a 404 every time.

is the page still up? i'd love to see a good comparison between the GP2X and the XGP, even though i'm only buyin' the GP2X. ;)

Haven't gotten responses yet on the video question. Just letting you know.

I talked to Squidge, and he isn't sure.

I hope to update the FAQ soon though. Thanks to everyone who helps me keep it factual.

Thanks! What happened is I copied the link from this site's front page, but their link is wrong. It's now fixed in the FAQ. :)

Here it is:

It uses any SD card; it doesn't use SMCs (GP32 does).

Is it possible to charge your rechargable batteries with the AC adapter connected to the unit?

http://www.gbax.com/ordergp2x.html
see the button down there that says "Add a 1GB memory card for only £45 more (All inc.)"? click that a couple times. that's a Secure Digital (SD) card.

SanDisk is one of the original creators of these cards, but you can use any brand. in general SD stands for the type of card, Secure Digital, not that company. here's their SD page. http://www.sandisk.com/retail/sd.asp

SD cards are small. very small. and thin too, while being just thick enough to feel solid between your fingers. SMCs, or Smart Media Cards, are larger in width/height, and extreeeeemely thin. too thin for my taste. plus SD cards come in larger capacities, up to 2048MB, whereas SMC reaches 128MB. http://www.sandisk.com/retail/smartmedia.asp

pretty obvious why they switched, mm? ;)
