Gemei A330

it'll be released this month apparently, and it's confirmed to be using the chinachip 1800.

Omg.. that's awesome! The one thing that was slightly putting me off of the Gemei A330 was that it's based on a chinachip, which meant there was an extremely slim chance of anything decent being done with it. This news has just turned the Gemei A330 to the next thing on my wish list!

Psst.. I've been following this thread on dingoonity to keep up with the A330. For anyone interested, it's got a lot of info on there (more than what is on this forum anyway), along with some more recent pix.

Edit: I'm guessing it is, but is this definitely for the Gemei A330 (pwnz) and not the Dingoo A330 (sux)? I've read the news post a couple of times and he doesn't actually specify either. The only reference is that it's by the same guys who did the A320, which isn't much use.
FakeEdit: He mentions the CC1800, which I believe is what the Gemei A330 has been confirmed as using, so guess it really is for that...

if chinachip really does co-operate with booboo then this is going to be a nice handheld, and quite a milestone in a changing attitude toward open source from chinese manufacturers. i am led to believe cc1800 is rather a lot more powerful than the ingenics chip in the dingoo so we might even see some progress on a decent psx emulator for it too. i'm hoping it to be around the $110 mark before shipping from china. roll on the 15th!

i wonder why chinachip didnt contact booboo months ago and attempt to get linux running from the nand out of the box. that would have been a big selling point and would have generated a lot more interest before release. i think it's funny that they havent the skill and/or dedication to do it themselves.

If it's as powerful as the Wiz then I'll pass. I got one very cheap and, compared to the Dingoo isn't that great (for example, I tried my vice port for both consoles and Rick Dangerous ran fullspeed at 275 MHz on the Dingoo while it needed more than 500 MHz on the Wiz)

Booboo has posted some details about the internals on his blog, and inparticular, some details about the screen. I'm not sure whether the details of teh screen are very good :( Blog post is @ http://www.dingux.com/2010/10/a330-guts.html

More info! The processor is this one - http://www.telechips.com/eng/Product/consumer_pro08.asp. I don't know whether it's good or not though. Anyone?

Edit: I've read that it's going to be pretty much as powerful as the current Dingoo processor, but using ARM instead of MIPS.

But with a better DSP that could be more useful for game etc than the one in the current Dingoo A320. From what i could tell what Booboo had said via the link from your previous post.

BOOBOO comments at http://www.dingux.com that it uses ARMv5 like WIZ/CAANOO, so I presume that it is http://www.telechips.com/eng/Product/consumer_pro05.asp

I dont recommend buy it if you have a WIZ/CAANOO or Dingo-A320 because it will can emulate the same 8-16bit machines with similar results. I love 8-16bit machines but I will not buy other handheld if it has nothing new.

It is necessary a ARMv6 at least for emulating new machines like PlayStation or Nintendo64 with decent results. The past week I tested PCSX4ALL under ODROID-S (ARMv7) and it is aprox x4 more fast than WIZ/CAANOO.

In this forum you will say 'PANDORA is the way, believe in it' but I would prefer not to comment about PANDORA for avoid flames.

Afaik Dingoo's chip doesn't have any kind of programmable DSP, but I'm not sure people will have access to the one on this chip either. A lot of DSPs are totally proprietary with unknown instruction sets and unavailable tools and may only run off of some ROM at that.

That said, few people will use a DSP to optimize code even if it's realistic to use it. Parallelizing tasks, even for games, is substantially more work and it's made worse when crossing address space boundaries, instruction set boundaries, and having to write different kinds of code that fits better with the arch. But it could be useful for something like geometry transform if the 3D doesn't have it.

TC890x is a great chipset. But this is confusing. This is a CC board, which make boards for MP4 players that flood the chinese market. Very differnt from Telechips that do all kinds of things. The TC8900x is split into three types. One for MIDs (with the 3d processor Mali100 I think.) and the other types for PMPs. They all do 1080P video nicly. Latest rev of these chips do ARM11 at 800 and 900MHz.

But I can assume this is still the CC1800, so none of that, and just a chip built for video playing.Spo Arm9 at 400MHz with a dsp, vpu, but no gpu.

Why can't someone just release a SmartQ V3 with gaming controls on the side?

http://www.jiongtang.com/shop/smartq-v3-otg-wifi-android-21-p-354.html or make a handheld gaming console based on the TC8902.

I'm mighty tempted by the A330 now. Some guy on dingoonity has a Chinese one now and it all sounds good. He's posted a small review @ http://boards.dingoonity.org/other-game-systems/official-gemei-330-review-topic/. For anyone interested, there's also a pic of the A330 next to the old Dingoo and a LetCool.

The Chinese release is apparently missing a few things (like the SNES emulator) and a few bits are buggy, but it's only just been released so they should be resolved soon. I believe these sorts of things are normally(???) sorted out before an English release and with Linux come up for it in the next few months, it's all good!

Anyways, I'll be keeping an eye out for the English release and assuming nothing buggers up, I'll be buying one! I just hope SNES is ready by then as I really want to play some handheld SNES games and can't be bothered with the batteries for my GP2X anymore ¬_¬
