GCW Zero - Open Source Gaming Handheld

I'd be lying to say I'm not anxious. :) It was getting a bit lonely here, so any update is definitely welcomed! Hope to see more tidbits in the coming days.

Ok retro-gaming guys and girls I just ran across a group that are trying to bring a gaming expo to the mid-west USA.

I don't know alot about it other then whats on the web but the more people we get into retro-gaming and exposure to it the better IMHO.

They have an Indiegogo fund raiser going on to raise funds for infrastructure costs etc so check out the links to it and others who have gone.

It also looks like they need vendors, exhibitors, and sponsors for the event so if you are one or know some please contact them about it and give them the info.

Below you will find links to the IndieGoGo fund raiser the actual event and news clippings etc:

If we can get a booth GCW plans to be there with the Zero demo'ing it and showing our support. We are also planning a release party here in

Kansas City, MO but nothing is ironed out yet but will keep you posted on the event. Lets show the girls and guys at Grass Roots Gaming Expo

some community support and help them reach and exceed their $2000.00 USD goal...

Dammit, today I got a spam email from 8cw... I thought it was from gcw for a second there

Any weekly news on the front?

One thing that could be nice on the handheld is emulators going for older machines.

I´m quite found of the 8-bit computers, tandy coco 2, msx ,apple 2, spectrum and c64 for example.

They are more of a hardcore emulation nowadays as it seems people lately are more interested in seeing n64 stuff going other then lynx :) .

Still, being able to emulate those machines with an attached keyboard would come handy for the old school, although probably not going to help sell as much as a working n64 emu.

maybe a port of MESS could help somehow? Anyone thinks such is of any importance?

Sorry if I've missed this, but how's battery life hold up?

Played around with a prototype a bit today - neat :)

Good successor for the Caanoo and Dingoo :)

Any estimate on when this device will be readily available? Seems really interesting!

@elwing if he elaborated that would take all the fun out of the mystery heheheheehehe.... Now on a serious side the GCW-Zero Special Editions is slated for release on Oct 1st, 2012 and 12 days later on Oct 13th, 2012 it will be release publicly at the Grass Roots Gaming Expo. I mentioned a couple posts ago about their Indiegogo webpage asking for donations.

@gcw wootsauce! October's gunna be pretty awesome! Also, if we're in, say, toronto ontario canada and wanted stupid fast shipping, that is doable right? (obviously I'd pay extra)

Do we have he option as to what color we would like from black or white? If yes how and when do we request it? Thank you @GCW.
