Will the kids be compatible with GP32 software? This would make it very special for people like me who never had a GP32 considering the price.
I want to echo this sentiment. I also never had a GP32 and it would be tough to go wrong picking up a compatible machine at $75, especially if *fingers crossed* it takes SD cards instead of SMCs.

mini has the same cpu as xgp cpu. so you can play 3D games with mini as well. however, the ram and memory is not enough to play most of 3D games in the market.

Not only kids will be compatible with GP32 software, mini will be compatible with GP32 software as well.

BUT, I cannot guarantee anything.

I was under the impression that the XGP and the mini had different GPUs.

It's great news that the mini can play gp32 games. This means that they are using the old crazy development kit. So it must be an open platform like the GP32 then.

Hm, since we never heard about the XGP kids, could we get some specs?
And will it be backwards compatible with the GP32? And if so, could GP32 programs run at higher speed on the XGP Kids?
And what exactly is this "GPOS" we were hearing about, is it related to the GP32 (euro)firmware?

let's just say that I have a "reliable" source at gamepark.
as I said before, retro-compatibility among xgp, mini, kids and gp32 are still up in the air. I cannot say for certain whether the three game consoles will be compatible to each other or to GP32. all i can say for certain at this time is that there "might" be a way to make them compatible.

GPOS is "upgrade" version of the OS used in GP32.

here are some kids spec.
CPU : ARM940T
OS : GPOS
RAM : DDR 8MB+2MB NOR
Display: 2.2 inch TFT-LCD, 220x176. 65k color.
storage: SD Card
Battery: 2 AA
sound: 64poly 16bit stereo.

Could you give some info on the 3D API of the XGP/XGP mini - will it be something like OpenGL ES or will you be using a proprietary API?
Will the SDK be available for free for us hobby developers?

ARM940T ? That´s the second core of the gp2x processor. Didn´t know there´s a standalone version of it. Not that i know much about this stuff...

Damn the XGP-K has a squashed down resolution. Heh, looks like the road for me started with the GP32 and will end with the GP2X.

I was exited about the mini, then more exited by the kids, but now I've seen the screen resolution for the kids, Its a no go which is a shame.

I can't imagine that they would not use the same resolution on the mini. Its even too small for GBA emulation.

Agreed. I was pretty excited about picking up the XGP Kids for cheap and being able to play the GP32 stuff in a tiny package, but the resolution has put me off of that idea completely. Make it 320x240 and I'll be all over that shit.

I'm pretty sure the screens will still have 320x240 resolution. I remember some cell phone screen that has that resolution.
