I've just stumbled across this crazy website home to the "Warp Pipe Project", and their goal is to bring online gaming to GameCube games that feature LAN gaming only (Kirby Air Ride, and the forthcoming Mario Kart feature this). As far as I know, the software being developed for the job will trick your GameCube into believing it's playing a normal LAN game, but will be playing on the internet instead! I really hope this actually comes together, just imagine online Mario Kart (and not forgetting Kirby Air Ride )...
I've also just read information on their website saying that they are now ready with the linux version of the software for testing, and are in need of testers to help them. They require testers who have the following:
1. An AMD or Intel based linux box running on the same network as your GameCube.
2. A Japanese GameCube (unless you buy a reigon-free boot CD called FreeLoader, you can buy that off http://www.codejunkies.co.uk )
3. A copy of Kirby Air Ride (Japanese)
4. The Nintendo GameCube BroadBand adapter
5. BroadBand Connection (which I cant get in my area as of yet.. )
6. An Instant Messanger of any kind (YIM, AIM, ICQ, or MSN)
The website address to the Warp Pipe Project Website is http://cubeonline.gamefarmer.com . Once they've been satisfied enough from linux software testing then they will port the program over to Mac and Windows operating systems. I use Windows, so the sooner the better! Let's hope this is ready in time for Mario Kart's arrival, and pray that the next Smash Bros is also a LAN game at the very least..
