Future Sdhc Prices?

But you can't get the wikipedia database (>4GB) on there if its fat32: had this problem last week, very annoying.
I'd forgotten about that damn filesize limit.

Actually, the FAT32 limit is technically 2TB and FAT16 is 4GB.

i was always under the impression FAT16 was limited to 2gb. back in the day when Compactflash cards were stuck at 2gb, i thought it was because that was the limit of FAT16.

and then the market shifted, and new cameras supported FAT32 cards to get past that 2gb step. i used to work retail, selling digital cameras (amongst other things), and that was the explanation i was given from the Fujifilm Canada rep that used to visit our store.

Let me just put it this way:
The SD cards are the last thing I'll buy while preparing for the pandora.

The prices for those babies are dropping so rapidly, I'd be a fool to buy it now. Even if it arrives after my pandora does, that won't be so bad as I'll just temporarily use the 2GB and 4GB cards for my ds (µSD with adaptor)

I, for one, can't wait for the big cards to be affordable at a reasonable price. I think I'd buy one for 60 - 70$, and I have the feeling that I won't have to wait too long for that to happen.

I plan to purchase 1 16 GB just after I pre-order my Pandora. Then I will wait for prices to drop before I buy another.

I'm with you. I have a 2GB card, and 2 1GB cards. I'll just hang onto those until the 32GB cards drop in price, or I'll wait until A-Data puts out a card.

yeah I would buy one when I know that they are actually starting to be shipped out ;)
EDIT

Here is if you want cheap, however by reviews: seems to be slow..

I bought this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820211300

and it's a great little 16GB card...quick and reliable (for me atleast)

I wonder what the difference between the EeePC version and the normal version is...

It's just like Wii SD cards. It's just branding. There is no difference.

I figured as much. I doubt that branding helps them sell any though.

With the EeePC branding, I'd agree. But in the Wii's case, I bet Sandisk is making a killing because of all the casual gamers who don't know anything about electronics thinking they have to buy the ones marked "Wii".

Quote pyramid again....

That 16GB card is a steal @ under $50. I'll have to grab a couple come preorder time ^_^.

32GB cards are nice, but it seems like the reliability and speed just isn't quite up to par with the 16GB lines. I've just found that the second down (32GB being the top at the time of writing) from the highest rated in memory tends to have much better value and durability. Stick with the 16GB cards unless you have a real need otherwise.

yeah, and 10 gigs is good for linux as it is, unless you plan on making it like a huge movie database in your pocket(don't see the good in that, I only watch movies once usually anyway)

I bought that 16 GB A-Data card for my GP2X, and the read speed is a HELL of a lot faster than my old 4 GB non-SDHC card. Loading a GBA rom that used to take about 10 seconds now only takes 2 or 3.

Writing speed, however, is somewhat slower. I noticed that saving a game state takes about 3 to 4 times as much as my old card. But I think that may have something to do with the GP2X implementation of the SDHC standard, since my computer writes to the card blazingly fast when I put stuff in it via card-reader.

I'll probably pick up two 16 gig cards, one for games and one for music/movies/podcasts. I really hope the price drops a bit between now and preorder, (from the looks of it, it's got plenty of time to do just that :p ) but $48 is still a steal compared to even a few months ago.

I wonder if we'll see some SDHC cards with rebates soon.

Oh, and once card prices drop on Buy.com, those of you who haven't used Google Checkout might want to try it, since there's a $10 discount. I did that so I could get a $5 2GB sd card. Google Checkout actually works really well.
