is there any chance we can get css on the gp? at least on the pc it's much better imho.
or this amiga c64 emu...what was it called...magic64? maybe one day when there's uae running we can use magic64

Frodo is great, even though I do use VICE on the PC, the main games I can not get working are Disk multiloads, ie games like Winter Games, it there a method to getting these to work???

Rock On

Hi all - I am new here as I just bought a GP32 today and set it up....

Its great that there is a working C64 emu such as FRODO for the GP32 - I have already tried 'Willow Pattern' (my fave game) and it works fine. Has anyone tried 'Wizard of Wor' yet?

Anyway just wanted to introduce myself. Expect to see me around quite a bit! B)

woah, all this talk about the c64 got me thinking about ghostbusters. now THAT, my friend, was a good game
Ghostbusters runs at 100% ... plays perfectly, except for the digitized voice.

I am a huge C64 fan, and bought my GP32 because of the Frodo screenshots. Maybe once I get all these games tested I'll throw them into a database and toss them online somewhere.

I'm *pretty sure* Wizard of Wor played okay. It was never a huge favorite of mine ... I remember tossing it in but I don't remember playing it much. I'll make sure it goes into my list.

On the PC, I use Vice too. On the GP32 though, you gotta take what's out there or code your own.

To get those multidisk games to work, try turning on 1541 emulation mode on Frodo. It'll slow all the disk access down to molasses (hey, just like a REAL 1541!) but many of them will work in that mode. I'll try Winter Games and let you know for sure.

Ghostbusters - wasn't the digitised voice that bad in the original version...? :p

it's the most played game on frodo for me... anyone got any other suggestions? shame ancipital doesn't work...

which versions of these games are working ?

is anyone testing using the gamebase64 images ?
I will probably test the GameBase images eventually.

As far as "which versions of these games are working", you'll have to be a little more specific than that.

if someone says ghostbusters works - can they say which one works ? the t64 ? the d64 ? packed/trained etc ? which site is it from !?

that's why i mentioned using the gamebase collection, it's a good starting point at least

p.s Flack, am also a huge 64 fan, i bought the GP32 because of the frodo screenshots as well. hee hee - it arrived today and dickhead me didnt order an SMC card - i mean shit i figured they'd include at least a 1MB card... so i've sent the missus out to get one... should be linking up in 3 hours... very keen to know which c64 stuff is fine, already found the sid players :)

Hi Magic Knight - Good to see another LEMONer around here!
Glad to see you have a GP32 now..Sadly after mine arrived the other day, my Girlfriend made me put it away for another two months - Its my birthday present off her!!

Can't wait till November 30th to get going and doing some serious C64 playing on it! - Though I am gonna have to buy a 128 smc, as it only came with a 32 one, and not enough games fit on it!

hey Lee :)

you aren't going to want to wait...

the thing is a BEAUTY !

it's *fucking fabulous*

we are so spoilt with c64 emulation, frodo does not come close to ccs or vice (but that's cross platform so maybe one day....) - but - frodo on the gp32 is so far the best emulator i've tried for it !! which is great coz that's exactly why i bought it

anyway - frodo on the gp32

first off - FULL SCREEN. nice.
sound - goes from really bad to spot on (or real close)
colours - great, can adjust contrast brightness to your hearts content

very easy to use - there is an option to boot first the prg in a d64 or a great option of having action replay get an a-f etc directory for you to pick from, saves loads of time on the virtual keyboard (which is good and works great too)

t64 option is there but i think that's gonna be a no-no for me, i'm putting all t64 images into d64s, so i dont have to click in 'load blah blah etc'.. 'run' etc..

games pointless in playing - text adventures ! sod asking thorin to leave the room 100 times..

games which worked which i just tried :

ancipital
aztec challenge
batalyx
boulderdash
black knight
bruce lee
california games
entombed
forbidden forest
maniac mansion
rambo
sheep in space
suicide express
trollie wallie
uridium
way of the exploding fist
zak mccracken

games which failed :

archon - locks when i have the first battle
age of adventure - wont load
ghostbusters - wont start
gribblys day out - dodgy graphics detection which means you die too easy
pirates :( :( :(

these versions were all from gamebase 64, maybe 'poorer' versions may work

dear Flack - which Ghostbusters are you using as mine won't work :( The speech thing also seems to affect way of the exploding fist - but not suicide express. cheers. back to the games :)

Iv never really got into frodo, i gave it a try but only had a few roms and had trouble with most of them apart from pink panther, which kind of worked, and giana sisters, which was pretty good. can anyone reccoment any good ones that work well on the gp? (ones that dont need much keyboard input etc.) Thanks!

The Ghostbusters I'm using is from the Blast disk collection. The ones I'm testing now are from a collection called the Arcade collection.

On Ghostbusters, it does the digitized speech but it's just a little slow.

Oh, and of course Frodo runs fullscreen. The GP32's resolution is 320x240, just like the old Commie! :)

Dozer, 99% of the games out there don't require you to hit keys (except to start them). Plus, since the C64 used Atari joysticks, buttons on the GP is no problem. If anyone ever picks up Frodo work again, I'd like to see the spacebar mapped to button B, for those few games that use both (Commando).

cheers for the Ghostbusters tip, it now works great.. few others i tried today from the gamebase collection which worked well :

action biker
high noon
hunchback II
kik-start
matrix
tales of the arabian knights

failed :
frankie (mucks up when you go into a window)
impossible mission (resets after loader)

all good fun !

On my version of frodo the spacebar already is mapped to button B!

What I'd like is the option to pick anything you want for the B button like UP for those platformers where UP is jump, I find it easier to press a button instead of pressing UP to jump :)

There are two versions of Frodo ... one is the normal, faster one. The other is slightly slower, but more compatible. Impossible Mission works in that one.
