May geek ninjas raid your bedroom for dissing Pandora like that.

I personally would prefer the plain geeky girl to the hotter but dumber one, or even the hotter one that doesn't like computers one. But that's just me.

What I find most distribing about that picture is that it seems that Bizarangelo there doesn't have a nose!

Yeah, you're right, it is.

It was late, and that was the first thing that popped up in Google images when I typed in "oh hell no." I didn't look at the face that carefully - I just saw a kid in a TMNT outfit and the words "oh hell no." No offense to downs syndrome people or family intended by me.

Dont sweat it prophet you really don't seem like the kind of guy that would do that intentionally, now if you would have typed in something like down syndrome fetish or something instead of oh hell no then I would say you need church  ps I bet that kid get's all the chicks.

Then perhaps a moderator should remove the image from all posts in this thread, including yours.

The boy in the photo hasn't been hurt in any way, in fact he's having fun. And nobody here is making fun of downs syndrome. I think we all understand what the intended joke was about (nerds & ninjas), and it had nothing to do with downs syndrome.

I don't really care what is wrong with that kid, it's funny.

How do you know he has downs syndrome? Why does it matter?

there's just something about making fun of mentally handicapped people (see, i can be pc) that makes some people unhappy. If you look at pictures of people who have downs syndrome, you can see that there is a definite similarity between those people and the person in that picture. I agree that the picture is funny, but making fun of retards those who are mentally handicapped is just mean because they have no chance/ability to defend themselves.

magicman5421,

Except - nobody was making fun of anyone.

This is interesting in a way, because it shows how reactionary some people have allowed themselves to become after years of "training" in political correctness.

At some point you have to discern intent and context. It's like those ridiculous cases where small children were suspended from school for DRAWING pictures of guns, or having a butter knife in their lunch box, because they have a no-weapons allowed policy at the school. At some point basic intelligence and common sense need to make a return.

The boy in the photo has not been "made fun of" at all. In fact the context of the photo would've worked no matter WHO was wearing the TMNT outfit, so long as they looked a bit "nerdy." Because THAT was the joke - the old angry nerd quip - it was nothing to do with anyone's handicap. There is no racism, homophobia or other PC no-no going on here. Had I noticed it was a DS kid at first I wouldn't have posted it, but at the same time, I despise self-appointed PC police and won't bow down to them.

i wouldn't consider myself a "pc policeman," i was attempting to make a joke about a) myself, because i am usually not too "pc" and B) how "pc" other people are trying to be these days, trying not to offend anyone. I understand it on one level, but if you're going to tread like you're walking on broken glass around everyone you meet, i think it's gone a little bit too far there. and i disagree with the statement that nobody was being made fun of. We weren't making fun of him, but the caption on the image i would see as certainly making fun of the kid. a picture of a DS kid holding nunchucks with the words "oh hell no" underneath him is making fun of how ridiculous he looks. It is getting a cheap laugh at something that shouldn't be laughed at.

I think you're one of those people who wants to be offended.

The picture has NOTHING to do with the kid being DS. It's a reference to (1) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which in turn suggests (2) nerdiness, holding nunchucks and looking (3) angry, with the caption (4) "oh hell no" in the sense of a nerd being outraged about something.

If it was just a "normal" kid (as I thought at first) the joke would still be THE SAME.

You either don't get the context, or enjoy being offended and don't want to get it.

Eliminate the variables and find what's common. The joke would be the same whether or not the boy had DS because it was never about his handicap in the first place. Hell, if it was ME in that photo, the joke would still be the same.

Hmm. I saw the image in a different way. I saw the "oh hell no" describing the kid, as in making fun of him, as opposed to the words being spoken by him. I thought the caption was saying, in so many words, "oh look at this retard, look at how funny he looks, let's laugh at him" as opposed to him being, in your words, outraged at something. I apparently didn't get the context.

Edit: and ok now, back on topic. thanks classic team. and i am happy.

You didn't. But it's fair to say that two people might see the same image differently.

To discern what the context and intent was, you could look at what else was there besides the image. In this case, I wrote a caption when I first posted it:

"May geek ninjas raid your bedroom for dissing Pandora like that."

That should've clarified the context and intent. Not to mention my next post after that, which I made BEFORE the PC police jumped on board...

http://www.gp32x.de/board/index.php?s=&am...st&p=605401

Anyway, I know I'm dragging this out. But I wish people would realize how reactionary we ALL have been condtioned to be to some extent or another. We see a certain thing or hear a certain word and attack, sometimes before looking at the full situation. And that's why political correctness is so damaging to society - it inevitably leads to reactions that sometimes go way beyond the original "offense."

Well said Prophet. Common sense is undervalued.

My view when it comes to PC things is that you can't remedy one form of discrimination by substituting another. To exclude posting a picture because it includes a human being with DS would be to discriminate because of DS. Even if that form of discrimination is done with the kindest of intent - it still signals to society at large that there is a "them" and a "us".

Never forget what the path to Hell is paved with ;)

<steps off soap-box now.....>

So why did you find the need to use the word retard and scrub it out?

Well I feel better, but then again I laugh at the infirm and retarded all the time and ridicule all indiscriminately.

ED: By all the time I mean at 5 and 11, his name is Peter Griffin.
