you've gotta be kidding me....

I think I bricked my wiz trying the upgrade...how?

I attempted upgrading from 1.2.1

If i power on, all i get is the light...i don't think the screen even turns on, or if it does, nothing is being displayed.

I used a PNY Optima SD 2 gb card for the attempted upgrade.

Any ideas? Is this fixable? (easily i hope...)

Actually, i found the posts on unbricking the retail Wiz...just one question, is it firmware specific?

I've owned my Wiz about a month now, and it came with 1.2.1

Try flashing again with the SD card in and hold R on boot.

If that does not work the easiest thing to do would probably be to send it back for warranty unless you have a serial cable.

Attempting to reflash gets the same results as turning it on....so, nothing at all.

i've read abit about the serial cable method, is it firmware specific? or will it work dispite what firmwares it had?

Also, how easy is it to contact the company for warrenty claims?

i'm sure this isn't the section for such questions, but since it happened upgrading to "this" firmware.....

Unfortunately I can't help your with that, I just got the Wiz about a week ago, I've just been reading on these forums a lot.

The upgrade doesn't work for me either, but thankfully my Wiz didn't get bricked. I recently reformatted my SD fat32 with GParted, so maybe it doesn't like it anymore for some reason. All past upgrades worked fine.

Anyway, this made me realize that this update is not worth the risk, it brings nothing useful.

Edit: In light of another bricked message, I added a warning to the first post. I don't remember hearing about people getting their Wiz bricked with previous firmware updates.

IT JUST BRICKED MY WIZ TOO. NOW I AM MAD.

I put the firmware on my empty sd card like i have with all the other firmwares, it installed fine up until the end where it said firmware upgrade error. I rebooted wiz and it worked, but i decided it would be a good idea to re-flash the firmware again due to that error. So i did just that, held R then the firmware upgrade screem came up, then the screen stayed black after that for about 20 minutes. I turned it off, tried to turn it on again and all that happens is the light comes on and nothing else. Also my wiz is out of the 1 year warranty... so i haven't a clue on what to do!

Write a mail to GPH's after-sales center. I am sure they will fix their fuck-up for free. At least, express that you expect them to.

Let us know what they say. It is situations like these that will show whether my next toy should come from GPH or not.

Heard only good news from their A/S center so i guess its worth at least the attempt.

Has the kernel changed again in that release thats the question that buggers me?

So I can't upgrade, but I can't brick either. ?!

I got the FW, threw it on the root of my 16GB SD card, FAT32 (even cleared it with SDFormatter 3 beta, just in case).

Boot -> Hold R - Get the "Firmware Upgrage" (yeah, I lol'd at that) screen with the computer chip on it.

Then my screen goes black and nothing happens. I'm sitting at about minute 10 of my third attempt with no visible sign of movement.

This previously happened and I powered off my Wiz and it did power back on just fine and boot - so I didn't brick it, but I can't seem to successfully upgrade the FW either.

I've used this same exact SD card in the past to do FW upgrades, so I doubt it's the card. Not sure what else is up w/it - suggestions and advice are both welcome.

Anyone have any ideas?

try a different sd card.

Yeah I didn't think that would help since I'd used the SD card for upgrades in the past, but I just tried a 2gb Sandisk and it's working now. Bizarre!

So, for anyone else having the same problem - try a different SD card even if your SD card has worked previously!

Edit: I did also format the card to FAT, so I'm not sure which of the two solutions worked. Try both?

Does this mean something is wrong in some sectors on your SD card? I used a 16 GB Transcend SD card and it worked fine. My SD card is FAT32.

I think it might just be my particular card. To wit: after getting the FW upgraded I slapped in the card and the Wiz refuses to even believe it's in the socket, claiming "the SD card has been ejected". This same SD card recently developed cracks in the plastic that aligns the pins on its top. It works just fine in my computers and other devices, but apparently the Wiz won't have any of it now.

Time to go SD card shopping I guess.

I have upgraded the firmware without any problems.

I have used, as done for 1.2.1, a 2gb microsd with adapter. obviously empty.

I am starting to think that sdhc cards may give problems while upgrading.
