ok first off could some one please expain who GPL, zealots, GPH (game park holding thats all i know lol), GBAX and Digisys are
GPL = GNU Public Licence. A licence for open-source software which has strict rules about releasing source code. Linux is under this licence.

zealots = people who advocate something strongly. (It's an English word, not a company...)

GPH = Game Park Holdings, the people who manufacture the GP2X.

GBAX = craigix's GP2X UK importation company.

Digisys = the people who haven't released the source to GP2X Linux yet (I think), breaking the terms of the GPL.

and whats going to happen to the people who have bought a gp2x.. will they be liable to get the money they spent for it back since it becomes a law suit?
Why would you want your money back? The machine works fine as it is... I really doubt there will be any lawsuit. Just sit back for a while and chill out, it'll all be resolved eventually.

In the end, it'll all sort out; GPH need to get their head out of their arses, and then it'll all be cool; we all just need to bug them until that day :)

ie: Its not really hard to comply with; GPL is just the terms-for-agreement thousands of devs in the world use.. its not really too hard to deal with.

(Digisys must release the code to GPH, and GPH needs to release it to us.)

wow thanks you guys made it more easy to understand thank you. it sounds like Digisys are the ones to blame.. no i dont want my money back i just want to know what happen to us the customers if there is a lawsuit.

So its really dignsys's fault for not giving the source to gph. Or have they given gph the source and then gph isnt giving it to us. Well then why cant dignsys just directly give us the source. Either way it looks more like dignsys's fault.

To be honest, i think the fact there have been no releases is a good thing, each update you do gives you a chance of bricking your gp2x, and if we'd had 1.3 and 1.4 released publically, there'd be a LOT of bricked gp2x's!

Now the good: firmware 1.4 actuelly works! DivX is perfectly synched, the battery light works, and theres a built in LCD tweaker!

The fault is Dignsys' as they weaved licensed code they weren't allowed to release (divx, SD) through the GPL (linux) code, then used that as an excuse not to release it. Its a pity magiceyes (the mmsp2 chip maker) forced GPH to use Dignsys, as they seem incredably incompitent!

Do they still use the place firmware in the root dir and pray method for upgrading?

If so have they added any bricking protection such as a confirmation before proceding to brick your unit for when you don't actually have a kernal in your root dir but it thinks you do anyway?

Now the good: firmware 1.4 actuelly works! DivX is perfectly synched, the battery light works, and theres a built in LCD tweaker!

Nice, does the LCD tweaker remember the settings at reboot?

Say thanks to the gpl zealots, without them we might be some versions higher by now.
Nice trolling...

As requested by Vimacs and to skip any debate or discussion about GPL & GPH, I should go straight through to the application of the Godwin law. Here is my (bad) Nazis or Hitler comparison...
Say thanks to freedom zealots, without them we might have a central world gouvernment under one Führer. Imagine, no more war, no Clash of civilisations, no cold-war, etc.

Someone leak the beta firmware... Please?

Why should someone leak it? You can get the beta on the dev channel. And if you don't have IRC, get it. It's great :)

Guys you got me all wrong, i dont think bad about gpl at all, with zealots i mean the random people who have nothing to do with it that start writeing hatemails and threat gph or even gbax,
of course its gph's fault that that could happen, but its gph after all.

Can anyone tell me whatever happened to HH?

Still being worked on. Still not complete. No file system as yet (but we have got direct/raw SD access), no sound, lots of other little things.

Someone has threatened me of banning some days ago when I tried to say the same thing, my friend :) And the thread where I tried to express myself was closed. That are the side effects of zealotry  (I'm so glad you teach me this word : zealotry :p)

Zealots are pretty much bad all of the time; I only get annoyed when people say they're preventing things, when in truth thats rarely the case; they're jerks in getting over-excited-too-quickly, but they're right :p

Does Humor, Irony and Jokes need smiley ? I think not, but just in case, just pretend there is one in my previous post.

Well, I hope this was ironic ;) I just wanted to point that this was the worst argument you could find to defend your point of view  Furthermore, it's not very funny to compare someone to a Nazi <_< Anyway, considering you're calling yourself "mongolito", I should not be surprised :D

Well, this was Ironic, I told you. Are you suggesting that I was not ?

My plan was not to have a sane debat. The point was to (continue to) ruin the discussion asap. I find it more enjoyable than an endless discussion that has already been made elsewhere. My point of view was that Vimacs' affirmation (which I did misunderstand) has already ruined the discussion (and I have been wrong) and that only trolls would take part in it. Bad argument and trolling seems perfectly compatible.

Since when, caricaturing someone's argumentation using a (volontary) stupid Nazi comparison is comparing hilm/her to Nazi ? Especially when the intention of reaching the Godwin's point has been announced ? But even if it was, why on earth can't a Nazi comparison be very funny ? If you have a definitive universal answer I would be glad to hear it.

I find it very entertaining that people who disagree with me always have to refer to my nickname and use it as an argument.

Do I need to put a smiling face or are you smart enough to see that what I just wrote don't have to be taken too seriously ?
