Just browsing through the released firmware sources and documentation.
For external joystick and keyboard mods there is good news!
Download gp2x firmware sources ( http://www.dignsys.com/eng/product_COM_Mag...cEyes%20MP2520F ).
Then look in the directory : linux-gp2x/Documentation/input
In the input.txt documentation you can see there is support for usb AND rs232 joysticks and keyboards (and the rs232 is exposed on the EXT port ).
See input.txt:
...
3.1.3 usbkbd.c
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Much like usbmouse.c, this module talks to keyboards with a simpplified
HIDBP protocol. It's smaller, but doesn't support any extra special keys.
Use hid.c instead if there isn't any special reason to use this.
3.1.5 iforce.c
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A driver for I-Force joysticks and wheels, both over USB and RS232.
It includes ForceFeedback support now, even though Immersion Corp. considers
the protocol a trade secret and won't disclose a word about it.
...
Now just waiting for somebody who has his GP2X first edition to get out his soldering iron and EXT port compatible cable (see http://wiki.gp2x.org/wiki/EXT ) and hack together some external keyboard or joystick hardware interface
