I'm currently considering creating an ebook/text reader for my final year dissertation, I will be starting it this September and will be due to finish March/April 2007 I believe.

Although that sounds a long time away I will most definitly be released beta's to select people who agree to test for me, and possibly a few public betas... unfortunatly no code will be released until the end of my dissertation.

If anyone interested in using such a product on the GP2X could kindly complete this quick survey:

http://www.xafiers-home.com/phpESP/public/...X_ebook_survery

I'd greatly apprechiate it as I want to try and get an idea of what people want, and what support will be most wanted, and what will need researching first etc etc :)

More than likely I will create a much more detailed survey in the future with more specifications and information, so if you could provide contact details I would apprechiate it, I won't use it for any purpose other than to contact you about this project.

thanks

[edit]

just to note, the question about how much you'd pay isn't to do with me thinking of selling it when its complete... I'd release it as freeware, most likely with source code too...

just part of the research into the project will involve commercial products already available, the need for the solution (which involves, how much would a final product be worth?) :) just thought I'd clear that up

There's already a better text reader available here, I'm not sure what else you can do to improve on it but power to you if you can. A faster PDF reader would be very nice, though, as would CHM support. You can find an OSS library for the latter here, but you probably already knew about that.

I also submitted a survey, but forgot to add a few suggestions:

-Support for multiple text files open at one time (ie. tabs)
-MOD/MP3/OGG support
-Magnifying box feature

Also took the survey, then came here and saw a couple of things I wished I'd included

For me, MP3/OGG support and the ability to either turn pages or scroll (perhaps an option) would be quite nice

Looking forward to seeing where this goes :)

This reader is ok, but I didn't like having to click L/R several times to scroll through several pages, rather than holding the button down as you can do on the built in reader.

Another question. Why is audio file support needed in a text reader?
