Ds Homebrew...

OK, having read up a little on this stuff, I have a few Qs

- Are there any slot 1 devices with 100% compatability of DS backups, with 100% speed etc?

- Are these things relatively straight forward to use?

- Anything else needed if you have a Slot 1 device?

- Whcih are the "best" NDS homebrew forums?

Not sure (Haven't followed) But I think if you buy a M3 DS Simply which I have, you'll be more than satisfied with the compatibility. I also hear the R6 Real has a brilliant compatibility?

Yes.

A memory card (MicroSD for M3 simply)

DS Scene is also a good site. M3 Simply and R4 are essentially the same thing and the firmwares are interchangeable now with a patcher released (I use R4 1.10 on my M3 Simply) Also auto - DLDI patching on the fly are available with latest firmwares too :D. Compatibility is something like 99%. Only thing is download play doesnt work on some games.

play gba on slot 1?
Impossible.

Whats the cheapest alternative if you want gba/brew/ds on a ds lite?
I recommend EZ-Flash 4 lite deluxe for it all, or the EZ5 + 3in1 expansion for GBA, rumble pak and memory expansion.

This is only because some roms distributed illegally are stripped of it to reduce the size of the file.

That's not true.

Really? I did not know that. I knew that there are homebrew programs avaulable to take out the download play from roms to make them smaller, and just assumed that was what was happening. I've never had a problem with the download play with any of the games I've tried on an r4, not that I really use download play much on it. Bomberman and Mario Kart work ok.

hmm...will have to find somewhere cheap nad British that sells them too.

These things are legal though right?
Obviously roms aren't but the hardware itself for homebrew purposes?

Of course they are. Read Only Memorys (ROM) are also completely legal,
but copyrighted files ripped from a ROM that you don't own aren't legal :p

Does anyone know why some games played on an r4 wouldn't work on the download play and others do. I don't quite understand why there would be any difference.

I'm a brit, got mine (R4) from www.dealextreme.com, cost £18 with delivery.
