What would be the total diffrence of running it on XP then running it on Linux

sorry nobody answers the F.A.Q

Sorry, are you talking about running windows on the GP2X or on the PC it is connected to?

Okey... Not sure I understand what you said, but you could not run XP on the GP2X. XP is for intel based cpus not ARM based ones. You could always emulate a PC on the GP2X, but only if you have way too much time on your hands.

You'd be running a different OS ... you really need to phrase your questions better. ;)

If you need to ask you don't need to know. Just keep on using Windows XP. I think the main difference with Linux is the fact you would probably manage to set fire to your computer somehow.

Is it that hard to workout, just run "echo enlight > /dev/case" in a shell of your choice.

But back ontopic, you would likely not noice much asfar as using the GP2X goes. It might be a bit easier setting up the cross-complier on linux. But from that they both have stable, well-working USB drivers and FAT drivers. (well most of the time)

Well for one, Linux is extremely stable, from what I've read ... less prone to crashing and whatnot, though it's not so easy to set up and use.

Windows is easier to use ... more user-friendly, so to speak. So the signifigance would be dependent on how tech savvy you were ...

And what has any of this to do with the GP2X?

Ok thanx um I've also heard alot of people have been recieving (I have not) there packages and missing parts like head phones, CDs, Batteries, etc.

This is off topic but if you choose an easier linux distro, and have someone guide you through the main differences, its quite easy to switch. Ubuntu linux for example is very good for beginners. Easy to install, easy to use. I have 3 friends computers that i have converted to linux, and they love it. No spyware is a huge bonus.

The difference between being Linux based and Windows based would likely be in the licence fee that would jack the price up by atleast 50 bucks. The OS would probably suffer even greater defects and take a longer time to rectify because of MS redtape.

Instead of using Ubuntu you should try Kubuntu, it's basically the same but looks better, and more like windows than Ubuntu. Actually I'm wrong, Kubuntu uses KDE so it's a cross between windows and OSX, where Ubuntu uses gnome and it's more like windows, but I prefer KDE.

Thanx,
Stan

Many choices might be great for some but makes it far less approachable to the non tech savy. All the work a person might have to go through just to choose a replacement OS for their PC would make some people just say "to hell with it, I'll just use windows then..."

I think people should try Linux at least once. I was fed up with viruses, spyware, and such to the point that I said 'ENOUGH' and switched to Linux, and have never had a problem like that since. I remember it used to get so bad that I needed to re-install windows on a bi-monthly basis, and that was with quite a few anit-virus and anti-spyware programs running. I've installed Linux maybe 3 times in the last 4 years, and that was because I got new computers. Granted that I played with Linux before that, but I'm no computer guru, so I think it's possible for anyone to do it really. The only thing I miss is games, but I have a Game Cube, PS2, Nintendo SP, and soon a GP2X, so I have plenty of games without my computer. It still plays Doom3 and a few others though, so it's not a complete loss.

So yes, if you comfortable with windows, by all means keep on using it, because there is no way you can spread viruses or spyware to me.

Thanx,
Stan
