The Pandora already has 4000 buyers and something like another 6000 in line.

Edit: To be accurate, I should have said, "The Pandora has LIKE, A BUNCH of buyers already."
It's something like 4000 or 6000 or 10,000. I don't exactly know.

I'm pretty sure there were 3800 at one point, and they're trying to get 4000 produced, and so... i don't know.

I don't think they're super-concerned about money.
But maybe this would be good for a different project that's having trouble getting started.

Remember that open source hardware bank is still only an idea. Also, I didn't find what they think is open-source hardware, so no idea if the Pandora would be considered as such.

The Pandora is obviously not open source hardware. It sounds like the schematics will not be released.
we know the chipset, but yeah.

hardware supporting/running open source software != open source hardware

Hm, where do you get those numbers from? What's your source or are you in the dev team?

I pulled those numbers out of hyperspace..?

They said they had 4000 [or 3800 + 200 backups] pre-orders several times, and somebody else said that they "were mailing the next 6000 people.." or something.

Maybe it was 6000 total. I have no idea.

They originally had sold 3800 pre-orders. After the banking snafu, a lot of those orders have been dropped, so they have a lot of left over products they need to sell. That's the 6000 they emailed: people on the list who had expressed interest in buying a Pandora. The hope is that some of those 6000 people are still interested and will buy into one of the slots freed up by cancelled orders.
They're still only making 4000 at first run.
