This looks like a perfect accessory for the panda. I'm sure I'll be getting one of these to mod into a clip-on kinda thing for mine. Would be great for using with Linux when in desktop mode & whatnot.

That's not a trackball... it's a scroll ball (I had trouble not writing "space station")! The little bugger is a normal mouse. If you can call that probably-unusably-small-pointer-device a mouse. If you CAN use it though, why not?

My bad, I didn't realize there was a difference.

mhm, i just figured it's form-factor would make a nice little addition as a snap/clip on for those of us who don't fancy using a joystick mouse.

My bad, I didn't realize there was a difference.

Trackball moves the mouse cursor, scrollball moves whatever a scroll wheel would (scrolls webpages etc), but also horizontally.

EDIT: CODE

actually shows the optical sensor under the mouse

I want one of those {force ball | trackpoint | force nub | nipple mouse} things that laptops used to have back before laptops started sucking in several different ways.

I had one on my Tablet PC, and it was awesome. They're so much better at long-distance movement than a touchpad.

Also, if the Pandora has a touchscreen and a force ball, it will be a Replacement Goldfish for my Tablet [who randomly died due to creative differences], which will make my backstory more interesting.

Ahhh, I see. I saw that pic, but I thought the thing it was pointing to was a button or something.

How would you actually clip it to the Pandora - without damaging the side of the keyboard?

Looks like a neat little device - but you are probably better off sticking with a normal USB mouse
Personally, I would build a clip for it so that it mounts beside the pandora, fitting flush with the case. Either that or hack it down small enough to squeeze into the bezel or something.

If anyone finds a tiny trackball or 'nipple' plz post it =]

Why on earth didn't they build THAT into the Pandora

Infact why don't we have those in laptops? I would much rather have a ball then a touch screen I have to swipe 50 times to move over the screen!

(probably cheaper too B) )

what, the trackpoints or the teeny optical mouse posted by OP?
Trackpoints used to be everywhere, but I guess touchpads gradually replaced them.

It's on my long list of things that make me sad about modern laptops:
1. No more trackpoints
2. Fugly wedge-shaped profile
3. Fugly rear-mounted screen hinge
4. Useless crap like cameras and fingerprint scanners are becoming standard.
5. Slot-loading drives. I just don't trust in general.

TrackPoints are still around, just not as much these days (I love the things, too) - I have one on my laptop (a recent ThinkPad, which is my main computer). Also, it has none of the things you list as things that make you sad about modern laptops, either. :D

I found some. But they are still to big. The one from Kensington has bluetooth.

The best I can imagine for ergonomic is to replacement one of the knobs with a small trackball. But the trackball has to be really small, due the clamshell design.
