Is it going to be possible? Coding on the go would be ace, and it would mean the Pandora would replace my PC completely.

Its possible on the gp2x, so I don't see why it shouldn't be possible on the Pandora.
Heh... Typically, the compilers have been slower than on the x86, SPARC, or PPC workstation class platforms, so people've done cross-compiling because it's definitely less painful- there's usually nothing on many of the handheld setups keeping the compiler, etc. from being on the machine. The Pandora's the first handheld where one could probably live with doing it entirely on the target platform. All one would need is to have a native toolchain instead of a cross-compiling one set up against one of the SD cards to accomplish it.

That's a pretty nice idea, the more I think about it the more I like it.
It will be interesting on how well it will work. I think I would stick to windows, since most the debug work I would do there. But to do some quick complication direct on the Pandora might be a nice feature.

Not that I expect it to be available at launch, but personally I'd be disappointed if there wasn't a toolchain that ran directly on the Pandora. I am hoping that there will be a code::blocks implementation. :)

I probably find it too tedious on a small screen personally for my larger projects but I can imagine myself writing small games in a scripting language like Python or Lua since they don't need compiling.

+1

This is actually the first thing I thought of when I heard about Pandora. I would love to script some Lua games in my free time when I'm bored. I would be able to shit out loads of demos when I'm on the shitter ^.^

It's fine DasFool, it's been the norm as of late.

As for the dev'ing on the target platform, I'd say it be interesting for a smaller game, but For game that require vast amount of asset management, editing and such; a bigger screen is definitely needed. This is where the TV-out comes in.

I would say you could use a video monitor or HDTV with S-video out and you can either use it as a portable computer with full keyboard, tablet, mouse, OR just maybe use the system and have a software suite optimized for the system that can maybe work in the higher resolutions?

if you had your own svn you could work on parts of your bigger projects on the pandora when you are not near home. If it's not possible to compile pandora apps and games on the pandora itself i would be really dissapointed,

Throw in the gimp, couple xterms, I'd be happy.

I'm 100% for this!
with the Gimp and some 3D modeling package (Blender?) that'd be awesome!
devving anywhere, a dream come true!!

Although I do most of my devving on a laptop. There exists moments in time, like when the wife is trying on clothes for example, when it's unforeseeable or inconvenient to lug a laptop along. With a Pandora in my pocket, I can work on code anywhere, at any time, and if Wifi is available I can upload my changes to CVS and pick right up where I left off on my laptop. Any time recovered from just sitting there, it time well spent.

Pandora makes it possible.
