Hello!

will it be possible to use a usb joystick to play the games? Or will I be able to play a versus game (such as street fighter or any other fighting game) with a friend using this same usb joystick?

Thanks in advance!

Hi and welcome. :) Short answer: yes.

Long answer: Single player is yes. Multiplayer is going to depend on support being included in each individual emulator. TBH I'm not sure how many emulators currently support it, but it's the type of thing that can be added given enough demand (and beer for the developer). What systems are you interested in, out of curiosity?

The other part of the long answer: If your joystick is a USB1.1 device, you'll need to connect it via a hub (if using the main USB port) or an OTG adapter (if using the mini USB port). If it's a USB2.0 device you can connect directly to the main USB port. See the USB FAQ link in my sig for a full explanation.

I'm interested in playing systems made for arcade plataform (MAME, CPS1 AND 2, NEO GEO), SNES, GENESIS, GBA; because I would like to play these old games with friends to remember the old good times. I used to play The KOF SERIES, STREET FIGHTER II and CADILLACS AND DINOSSAURS.

Ok, all this info is off the top of my head. Corrections to my vague facts are welcome.

> (MAME, CPS1 AND 2, NEO GEO)
MAME4all and FBA (FinalburnAlpha) will cover these systems. I believe there is multiplayer USB support in both of these emulators.

> SNES
We'll probably have SNES9x, SquidgeSNES and PocketSNES to choose from. I honestly don't know, but there must be multiplayer support in there somewhere!

> GENESIS
PicoDrive is the emu for this, and IIRC it has multiplayer support.

> GBA
gPSP will probably get ported before long. I don't think it has USB support at this stage.

Simply put. If the emulator doesn't recognize a joystick and the OS does. It can be mapped to any of the controls. So long as someone is willing to make it easy.

a hub might be necessary, because pandora usb port is native-only 2.0 and gamepad are low speed 1.1
am i right? or am i right??

edit: damn, after rereading gruso's post, i wish i could avoid posting when drunk
No friend, a lot of us do that (post drunk). And a lot of us understand and let it go. No worries.

I think BackAssward answered it the most logically: If the emulator supports multiplayer then the keys can be mapped to the joystick since the OS will support joysticks. I'm thinking that most will, every emu I played on my computer I just mapped first and second player to two joysticks I have.

EDIT: Well, at least I think, I use Linux and as long as I have the controller set up to act like just more buttons for my PC then I just map the controls there. I would think Pandora would be the same. In OSX it does depend on the emulator to use USB joysticks but I've been told by Mac fanatics that is just because OSX is set up poorly in that department. I haven't used Windows for so long I don't remember how all that happens there, does it depend on the emulator supporting USB joysticks?

In windows, anything is possible. For amc and Linux, you only get a handful of programs that probably all get a decent amount of usability. In windows, you get ports of those, plus a billion others that may have some things better, others worse, and the like. A good emulator will support joysticks, but a random one written by a guy in a basement might not. For those, you use xpadder. (maps joysticks to mouse and keyboard. Cool, eh?)

Lol, more than what I asked for. Also, I found the 'written by a guy in a basement' funny, so most emulators are written by a guy in a posh mansion while eating caviar? So I'm guessing that coding an emulator is a side project of billionaires in your mind?

I seem to recall seeing some suggestion, too, that it may be possible to get a wireless PS3 (or was that Xbox?)controller working with Pandora - which would be brilliant when playing Pandora hooked up to a telly. I'm no tech, but someone may be able to shed some light.

Cheers

totes! i believe there are open-source drivers for both the ps3 controller and the wii remote, the former of which might already be in the angstrom repo if i recall correctly =] really sweet, I'm beginning to get very excited for the pandora once again =D It's actually coming at a very good time for me, right when school ends =]

Does the WiiRemote driver support the Classic Controller?

Wiiuse (http://wiiuse.sourceforge.net/) supports pretty much every Wii Remote extension there is, including the Classic Controller. There's also a C++ wrapper called WiiuseCpp (http://www.missioncognition.net/wiiusecpp/) that's apparently in alpha but works for me. It (the C++ wrapper) exists to help the author write python bindings for wiiuse so there's quite a few options.

it would be excellent if i can hook up pandora to TV out and play 2 player beat-em-ups with a wii mote for player 2

good times

ps3 controller can be an option as well.

yes, ps3 controller can be an option and has already been discussed in this thread.

However I'm guessing Fzero has a Wii, not a PS3...

guess again! :)

I have both .... BUT .... if im challenging my opponent, ehem, friend!

...Im not going to give them the GOOD ps3 remote am i, for them to whoop me with!
...Nooooo, they get the crummy wiimote, and a side ordering of whoop ass from me

:)

but seriously, good to know both could run

Heres another one, what about MORE than 2 players, I guess if the game and the emulator allow it, right, same as with the 2 player games?
Something like GAUNTLET or TMNT or SIMPSONS arcade game ... where potentially you can have 4 players.
That posible too?
